Oval
Trevor Bayne - Daytona 500 sensation.
Carl Edwards - Unlucky, but his best season yet.
Tony Stewart - Proved he still has it.
Dario Franchitti - Winner again.

Road:
Sebastian Vettel - Best by far.
Lewis Hamilton - Ended on a high note, and came through well.
Jenson Button - Consistent and cool, a great season
Fernando Alonso - Destroyed Massa with ease.

Off-road
Sebastian Loeb - Still supreme
Sebastian Ogier - A successor to Loeb surely?
Jarri-Matti Latvala - Still going well.

Driver of the year:
Sebastian Loeb
Sebastian Vettel
Jenson Button
Tony Stewart

Why can't I vote for Andreas Mikkelsen, Martin Tomczyk, Yvan Muller, Jamie Whincup, etc...but Lewis Hamilton who had a pretty average (rubbish to his standards) season is included?
There are no GT or Touring Car drivers included at all?

Why is Jules Bianchi included and not Romain Grosjean?

You narrow it down to those 4? Bit what about the others? Can't forget Dan Wheldon!

Who forgot him? He won one oval race, its nice to remember him but really...driver of the year is a bit much though fair enough to those who choose him - it was a great Indy 500 win.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. No Jamie Whincup, no Mikko Hirvonen, no Marco Simoncelli; dozens of potential candidates have been missed out.

Oval:
Franchitti
Stewart
Edwards
Kenseth (since he can't be on the list and since Gordon had an off-year, no other NASCAR guys are eligible for various reasons).

Road:
Power
Vettel
Alonso
Where are the Le Mans Drivers? The Rolex Sports Car Drivers?

Off-Road:
Loeb
Ogier
Deegan

Final 4:
Stewart
Franchitti
Vettel
Loeb

Honestly, why is Kasey Kahne on the list at all? Where is Kevin Harvick? Putting on Dillon or Stenhouse Jr. is utterly ridiculous. Let me not fail to mention Sam Hornish Jr. did NOTHING this year.

I added Le Mans drivers just look closer.

And I added Grosjean, Tomzcyk, Whincup, Harvick, Meeke, Simoncelli, Hirvonen, Lowndes, Pruett, Rojas and Percat. Anyone else?

Kasey Kahne is on the list because he snapped a 70 race winless streak, and Sam Hornish Jr. won his first NNS race. Ty Dillon won the ARCA Championship and Austin Dillon won the NCTS Championship. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the NNS Championship.

NOTICE: You can exchange your votes if you suggested a driver/rider to me.

Why the hell did you list Percat? Sure, he had a good run at Bathurst, but you missed out on Craig Lowndes. You've also got no sign of Mikko Hirvonen (who stood a real chance of winning the WRC title going into the final rally even if Loeb won most of the events until then), Marco Simoncelli (who demonstrated just how promising he was two weeks before Sepang), Luca Fillipi (who went from fifth overall to second in the final GP2 meeting at Monza) and plenty of others. And, as has been pointed out, you've got drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Kasey Kahne in the list who, by rights, probably shouldn't be there for various reasons.

I have to ask ... did you actually put any thought into this list, or did you just write down names as they came to mind? What criteria did you use to select which drivers made the list and which drivers did not?

Perhaps it would have been wiser to open the floor to nominations (which would require someone to second them) to compile the list.

Oh awesome, I'm going to list the Columbus Clippers and the New Hampshire Fischer Cats as teams of the year in Baseball along with the St. Louis Cardinals because they won the Triple-A and Double-A Minor league championships respectively.

A driver snapping a 70 race winning streak and not winning til until the end of the season does not make him eligible for driver of the year regardless of what format you are using.

Oh okay. It's not like he will be voted anyway

nitro: Why do you keep making threads like this? You've shown with your other one that you don't organize them very well, and you never seem to have a great number of drivers.

And while it is quite sad that he died, Dan Wheldon won the Indy 500 on someone elses mistake. What else did he do all season? What about 2010 Le Mans? Sure, Audi "Won" but because all 4 Peugeots crashed out... A mistake on your part doesnt necessarily mean you have more skill, or better driving ability. It's like Heath Ledger. No one thought he was anything special 'till he died. Everyone I know cringed at the sound of anything Michael Jackson until he died, and now Thriller is on the radio all the time. My point is, just because someone died doesnt mean they were the best driver of the year.

Additionally, even I, a Hamilton fan, would not suggest him for "Driver of the Year". He had a horrid year. Did he put a few good moves on Vettel and the like? Sure. But he was by no means ground-breaking.

Stephane Sarrazin? Name 10 good things he did all year.

Those are my picks based on drivers I actually know well, and on how their seasons went.

👍 This.

Also to be technical Bayne had 1 good race and if you wanted to go for STORY of the year (not driver) then he would be in consideration, as would Dan Wheldon.

It would have been better from the start to have a group of people looking after something like this and not one unorganised individual...

My driver of the year? I'd like to say one of the guys from the Le Mans winning Audi but really only Fassler ran the full ILMC season.

You actually put in a vote for Lewis Hamilton? He had a terrible year full of mistakes that were his own fault. Any reason why in particular? I mean, this is the first time he's ever been beaten over a season by a teammate (who was supposedly going to be destroyed by Lewis) and yet you didn't even throw in a vote for Jenson who, let's be honest, few thought he could beat Lewis on equal terms.

Edit: to the op. Not trying to be a 🤬 or anything, but why is Dario included in the ovals section but Scott Dixon (who won the oval championship) isn't?

The list is a bit of a mess tbh. I like the idea of the thread, but I think it would be better if you let people choose their own candidates. Within reason of course.
