At least 10 people have been killed in explosions at underground stations in St Petersburg, Russian media report.

The Tass and Interfax agencies reported the blasts hit the Sennaya Ploschad and nearby Tekhnologichesky Institut stations in the centre of the city.

Images posted on social media showed a carriage in Sennaya station with its doors blown out with casualties nearby.

President Vladimir Putin, who is in the city, said all causes, including terrorism, were being investigated.

Interfax reported that at least 20 people had been injured, and that one of the blasts involved a device filled with shrapnel.

There was one explosion. The second bomb didn't go off and was defused. It was a fire extingusher filled with explosive and put in a bag with shrapnel. The first, reportedly, wasn't a suicide bomber too.

Reportedly, 10 are killed and about 50 are injured, including children.

The oppositionary "liberals" are drawing parralels between the attack and the protests on March, 26th, like "it was Putin's revenge". Degenerates. :indiff:

3 stations of Moscow subway were closed because of suspicious bags detected.

An early guess would be Chechen separatist movements, do you think?

In the most recent bombings I remember (Moscow subway in 2010, Domodedovo airport in 2011, Volgograd trolleybus and railway station in 2013), they used suicide bombers. In this one, they left the bombs in bags and walked away. Different pattern. Like in Brussels.

My early guess would be ISIS. They claimed responsibility for the recent attack on the National Guard base in Chechnya. However the "Emirate Caucasus" pledged allegiance to ISIS so there's not much difference.

P.S. Just contacted a girl who studied in the university with me and then moved to SPb. She says she's OK but she's shocked because she used that station regularly.

There's a video of the aftermath of the explosion shortly after the train arrived to the station (the blast happened in the tunnel, but the train driver chose to stop on the station), absolutely not AUP-friendly. Terrible. But it was impressive to see that people were helping the injured instead of simply running away. And the pilot of the medical helicopter who landed on a narrow place between trolleybus wires. This city will stay strong.

So it was a suicide bomber indeed. A 22 years old man, Kyrgyz-born Russian citizen (he was given the citizenship when he was 19). He left one bomb on a station (a policeman spotted it and led the people away), boarded a train and blew himself in a tunnel. The death count is 14 by now.

When the city's subway system was closed and the public transport was overloaded, many car drivers started driving people home for free. Uber and other taxi services of the city were working for free on that day. Some gas stations were even giving free fuel to those drivers who carried passengers. However, there were also some idiots on the social media posting fake news about more exposions on other stations.

Meanwhile, the "liberals" were spreading conspiracy bull:censored: (some foreign media, e.g. BBC, noted that too) like "Putin did this to distract people from protests", "Putin will benefit from this" - in other words, using even this opportunity pick at the political opponents and gain political points. Then these :censored:s are suprised why people don't support them.
