LIST - VEHICLE MANUFACTURE LOCATIONS (model-year 2004)

This is a list of the make location of each US model-year 2004 vehicle. In some cases, a model-year 2005 vehicle was substituted because the vehicle had already been redesigned (examples include the Subaru Legacy and Outback, Volvo S40, and Chrysler 300).

NOTE!! This chart is not to be read as percentages of each vehicle made in a country, but rather as total percent of vehicles made in a country. For example: 92% of Chevrolet Cavaliers are made in the United States, NOT 92% of each Chevrolet Cavalier comes from the United States. I have no idea what percentage of the parts of a Chevrolet Cavalier comes from the United States, though I suspect it's way less than 92. Clarifications are at the bottom.

By the way, this is in Arial because it looks best in Arial.

LIST - PERCENTAGE OF MODELS MADE IN THE UNITED STATES

This is a list of the percentage of models made domestically, ranked by percentage. This is not a list of the percentage of vehicles made domestically, but just of models: for example, 84.6% of Ford's models are built in the United States, but those not built here are only the Freestar and Crown Victoria - which likely account for less than five percent of Ford's sales. So while 15.4% of Ford's models aren't built in the United States, it's likely that only around 4.6% of Ford's total model sales come from those products. Also, companies whose cars share build location - like the Cadillac Escalade, made both in the US and Mexico - are considered US-made cars for the purposes of this list. Which is why Cadillac is in a somewhat unique position of having 100% of their vehicles made domestically, and 20% made elsewhere. American manufacturers are in bold.

Once again, this is presented in Arial and applies to the American 2004 model year only.

CHRYSLER
Crossfire: USA (100%)

As far as I know all Crossfires are built at Karmann's factory in Osnabrueck, Germany.

Yet their VINs begin with 1. :boggled:

FYI, your BMW 3 series cannot be correct at 100%. There is a plant in South Africa near Pretoria that builds 3ers.

Not for the 2004 US model year.

Also, a signifigant amount of Porsche Boxsters are made in Uusikaupunki, Finland.

I didn't really check out the Porsches, so okay, there's one mistake.

On the fence about this one too - I think Crossfires are built in Germany too but their VINs say otherwise. The last time there was a Domestic car built in Germany, its VIN started with a W, as it should (I'm talking about the Cadillac Catera, incidentally). I really don't know.

I've also found another model in a similar situation. All Minis are made at BMW's plant in Oxford, England, despite the fact they have VINs beginning with W.

It's interesting though - the Audi TT seems to me like another candidate for re-VINing, or whatever the term may be, (because who wants a car made in Hungary?) but it's not. This shouldn't be allowed!
