The Legacy B4 models are basically the "STi" version. They don't actually make an STi version of the Legacy, so this model is the top performance model. The older body style Legacy had an "S401 STi-Version" sold, but it wasn't really and STi car. It was built how most STi cars are built, but wasn't actually labeled an "STi" car. It was the "Legacy S401" by name. Close, but not really. I'm not sure what the significance is of "B4" though. But, the "B4" model is always the top Legacy.MrktMkr1986It looks nice, but what does B4 mean?

It actually is using the 2.0L EJ20. The 2.5L EJ257 that we get here in the STi, Legacy, and Forrester XT isn't used in Japan. And, I also made an error in my earlier post. Its not the "B4" thats the top Legacy. Thats just the sporty Legacy, like the GT we get here. They have many versions of the B4. They have the B4 3.0R, which uses a spec'd up version of the flat-6 like we get here in the Outback. Its the "Blitzen" model which is always the sporty, tuned up Legacy. I wasn't really thinking, my bad. Either way, this car is using a 2.0L EJ20 like the Impreza, and should be the top Legacy.xcstiThe regular legacy has either a 2.5L turbo or a 3.0L v6. It's most likely a tweek of one of them.
Ev0I thought Subaru didn't have a V6, but a boxer I-6 instead.
Inline engines, all the cylinders move the same direction, like an M3. Flat, or horizontally opposed, engines have half going one direction, and half the other way, like a Suby or Porsche. Yes, they are on the same plane, but they move in opposite directions. Hence the "horizintally opposed" name.Ev0I thought inline engines meant the cylinders all moved on the same plane, which would logically make boxer engines a type of inline engine.
Omnisb4 could mean boxer 4...but if it has a B6, then that b4 theory just went out the window.
You must have missed my post earlier (post #15). We already know that. We were trying to figure out what "B4" stood for. You said maybe "B4" stood for "Boxer-4" which sounds good in theory. But, as I just said before this post, they also have a Legacy B4 3.0R which has the 3.0L flat-6 in it. So, the B4 thing obviously stands for something else that we don't know yet.Omnisjust did a babelfish translation.....and guess what? it DOES have a 4 cylinder.......type: EJ20 type: Horizontal opposition 4 cylinder 2.0 DOHC 16 valve dual AVCS twin scroll turbo
I doubt that. No offense, but if that were the case, every single Subaru would be called a "B4" model. All they make is horizontally opposed engines in AWD vehicles. Again, sounds good at first, but doesn't add up. I'm still guessing its something to do with it being 4-door. Who knows.infernoThe B stands for the boxer engine, and the 4 stands for the 4WD.
