Wow, what a nice looking SUV Crossover thingy...

Leftlanenews.com
General Motors today unveiled the GMC Acadia — GMC's first crossover SUV. Acadia is powered by GM's 3.6L V-6 VVT, a high-feature engine with variable valve timing that is designed for good fuel economy, low emissions and exceptional smoothness. It is rated at 267 horsepower (199 kW) and 247 lb.-ft. of torque (335 Nm). The engine is backed by a new, fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission. Acadia is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. Fuel economy is estimated at 17 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway with FWD models and an estimated 17 and 24 mpg with AWD models. Acadia can tow up to 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg), when properly equipped.

This is something very nice indeed. I'd say it is a great replacement for the rather outdated GMT360-based Envoy, and this could be the SUV/Crossover thingy that GM has been hoping for.

Thus far, I like the Saturn Outlook the best. But I'm waiting to see what offically happens with the Buick Enclave as well.

Ohhh...Okay. When I heard they were replacing the GMT-360 cars I thought they would do it with the Equinox. This is much better than I thought. So long as they at least make it able to buy the Trailblazer still.

Now GM needs to get rid of the other trash SUVs and just do 1 large (Tahoe) and 1 crossover (this) and 1 small (something smaller than this). No more of this bull**** 50 SUVs per company in the GM lineup.

And the same goes for Ford too! *kicks them in the nuts* BAH!

This, the Outlook, and the Enclave aren't related to the Equinox and Torrent, are they? Because the trio look substantially different than the Equinox and Torrent, whereas those two are nearly identical. Overall I like this Acadia--the name included--and its Outlook and soon-to-be Enclave brethren. Good job GM. Now just get rid of all the mush, like JCE said.

...Technically speaking, yes this does share some baisic pieces with the current Equinox/VUE. The new GMC Acadia along with the Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave all ride on the same Lambada GMT-960 platform that is a unibody structure, and will be available with front or all-wheel-drive.

My guess is that all of the GMT960 trucks will eventually replace the GMT360s, as they are out of date, and generally aren't up to the standards of most of the newer SUVs (I should know, we have an Envoy). I'll miss the pulling power of the 4200 I6, but I'd say the new model is a nice change of pace with the lower output (more more efficent) V6 and the extra cogs in the gearbox.

Looks like you can shift it yourself too. There is a +/- button on the side of the shifter.

Yes, and surprisingly that way of shifting actually works out well. I had a run in the four-speed Malibu with the same shift operation, and it was really easy to use. Granted, as a part of the Playstation generation it may be a bit easier to get used to for me than someone like my Grandfather or Uncle, but I'm happy to see it come on the Acadia as well.

...Now that I think about it, I can't remember if the Aura (with the same transmission) uses the manumatic function on the shift level or with paddles behind the steering wheel...

Peronally, I prefer manumatic shifting on the central tunnel, and not on the wheel; buttons, paddels or otherwise. It's just so much more fun (in my opinion) to use it with the shifter, because it just "feels" better.

...I'm curious to hear what you all think of the new interior of the vehicle. GM has been working hard to revamp the interior of almost every model by improving plastic quality, adjusting button layouts, and going for more simplistic designs that are a cross between the best of Japan and Germany.

I personally think the interior is a pleasant surprise by comparison to the Envoy. The Envoy's interior feels cluttered, and you can see where stuff was cheapened up to match the needs of the beancounters. On this, it almost looks like the interior would be at home in a Honda or Toyota...

While those push-button controls on the fan-speed, etc. by the A/C unit is kind of a turnoff, I think it's a very nice looking interior. Another minor complaint would be the the "just OK" seats, but I'm sure they are light years better than Ford's leather. :yuck:

The interior is much much better from previous GM interiors. I'd reserve my final judgement for when I sit in the car and feel the plastics and controls myself. But, on looks alone it's very good. 👍

Yay, another hip minivan.

I mean, Crossover...sorry.

I like the trend of CUV's getting more and more like butch minivans.

The interior is ok, better than I expected.

The name... whats next. "Introducing, the GMC Dogwood."

I wish the clear on the tails was on the bottom or gone all together. Uglyass color, too. What's up with GM and the hideous plastic-panel crap that they throw on all their "new" SUV designs?

THe interior does look very nice. I guess thedash is simple enuogh, but the hazard button and passenger airbag light look out of place. And though the quality is light years ahead of models from just a few years ago, it still may not be up to my liking.

My buddy's Mazda 3 has an amazing interior for its class of car. The quality and details are just right, and I haven't had any complaints. In contrast, my cousin's new Cobalt SS has some noticable flaws. THe plastics are harder, thinner, and less solid feeling. You can see hangy things on the edges caused by the molds. The center console looks really plain and there aren't many nifty design or storage details anywhere. Oh, and the 3's clove box is frickin' enourmous compared to the SS's. Other than those nigles, the SS's interior is fine and looks pretty nice and is very functional. At least until you need to store your sunglasses and cell phone in the center console, along with some change and a drink.

It's....Nothing i'd get excited about. I'm not much of a crossover guy. for me it's all or nothing.

I'd say it,the Enclave and Outlook are certainly better than the Chrysler Pacifica and Ford Freestyle.

It's a nice idea, but they need to kill some SUVs first. Like the Equinox. It's a flop here, I hardly see one.

Acadia...hmmm, nice name. Thanks for choosing a piece of Canadian history!

I belive these new Lambada/GMT960-based SUVs are going to replace the Theta-Based Equinox and VUE. Chevrolet hasn't said if they will use the new platform for sure to replace or kill the Equinox, but we all know the VUE will be replaced by the smaller Opel Antara in the near future.
