Bah I was really hoping for AWD....It would have been cool to see an evo/wrx competitor.

Hopefully the engines tune will stay the same as the Mazda 6 MPS (or higher :D).

Yeah a AWD version would be great, then enter it in WRC.

Abetted by AWD this engine catapults the Mazdaspeed6 to 5.4 sec 0-60s...so...in the lighter FWD Mazdaspeed3 I guess we can expect large amounts of wheelspin and thats about it.

The front isn't bad, but i've never been a fan of the 5 door style.
The power plant sounds great though, too bad it'll be stuck in an FF.

Doesn't mean that it'll be the same for the 3.
I've heard of 230-250 hp, more of a SRT-4 competitor, although the SRT-4 will have AWD, so that's a shame.

Where did you see that the SRT will have 4WD?

Yeah I swear the neon got scrapped or is gettin scrapped unless you talkin about some next srt-4 that wont be in this class anyway.

Even if this has only 250hp its too much power for FWD.

it doesn't have as much power as Caliber SRT-4
but I think people will prefer the look of Mazda3

The Mazdaspeed 3 should have 250hp or less; Mazda know what they're doing when it comes to handling, so they won't overpower it. FWD is okay, just as long as its a short wheelbase car with a 4 cylinder engine with less than 250hp, otherwise there is just way too much understeer.

It sounds like a good deal, I suppose. But when you have the 300hp Caliber SRT-4 on the horizon, this might get blown out of the watter... Hell, even then there is talk about the Golf R32 comming stateside, and that further trumps the two of them with AWD performance.

I don't know about you, but I would take the Mazda styling, handling, and interior comforts over the UGLY 300hp beast which is the SRT-4. It only takes a couple cheap mods to put the Mazda right there with the SRT anyways.👍

I'd take handling balance over power any time.

Rumors for the MS3 peg it at 220... guess we won't know until the wraps come off.

I seriously doubt anybody would cross-shop the MPS3/Caliber SRT4 with the R32, considering the likely huge price difference. The R32 would probably be close to 350Z/Evo pricing.

Well, with prices unannounced for the new Mazdaspeed3 and SRT-4 I would suppose its a tought comaprison between the two of them an the R32 (since it may not be sold in the US). Maybe the GTI would be a better compeditor?

No more VW R32 http://www.edmunds.com/used/2004/volkswagen/r32/100380042/prices.html ??? So 2004 was the last year for it then? I felt it was over priced, considering other cars for better bang for the buck and they are domestics at $20,000! It just sucks that the companies with these new cars aren't putting better drivetrains(4WD) to the engines with 300HP and all.

There is a new R32 which is rapiddddd. Alot faster than the old one and will sell for around the same figure as the old one. And it did sell quite well.

Anyway there is a big possibility we will see a M version of the 1 series just to let you guys know.

2004 was the first, and only year for the R32 Golf in the US. Although the car was wildy successful and has a huge fanbase, apparently VW has not made any offical plans as to the new R32 comming stateside. Chances are (more than likely) the new R32 will eventually make it here, assuming the MKV Golf and GTI sell well enough for VW's tastes.

Personally, I want to see the "twincharged" Golf GT here in the US to split the difference between the regular 2.5L Golf and the GTI, but that probably won't happen...

...So far, we only get the 2.5L Golf. I'm sure that the diesel will be an option, maybe, depending on how the diesel fuel regulations work out for 2007. Its not that the 2.5L is a bad engine (which it isnt) but it just doesnt do what needs to be done. Maybe, just maybe, VW will get smart and sell the 2.0T without the GTI suspension/interior/etc like what they do with the Jetta, and then they may have built the car I'm looking for.

...Mind you, were just (and I mean JUST) getting the MKV Golf that youve had in Europe for what, almost three years now? Apparently VW thought it was more important to get the MKV Jetta (40% of US VW sales) out first, and then the Golf...
