This is old news I suppose, but I'm surprised no one has posted it yet...

Spy photographers at Automedia captured a Mercedes E-Class sedan and wagon sans disguise during a commercial shoot. The updated model was first revealed by Leftlane News in January with a single grainy photo. The car gets a new front fascia and updated taillights. The car will be officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show next month. It will be the last revision to the current E-Class before an all new 2008 or 2009 model arrives.

I'd say the car looks pretty darn good overall, and I'm interested in seeing how good the E63 AMG will look with the AMG bodykit attached. Its better than the 5-series, but I still think the A6, STS, and M45 trump them both.

I like the short boot length on the sedan - it always makes a big car look more compact.

Anyone know why the need for the wood under the front wheel in pic number 1?

It's probably used to make the car appear more level, which makes sense because that's a pretty rough looking street. :ill:
They did a good job with the facelift, IMO. (They'll probably fugly the next gen car like they have with the S Class. :yuck: ) Can't wait to sample an E320 Bluetec! (Stupid how they have to make CARB states wait til MY '09, though... :grumpy: 👎 )

Well, I assume they dont want to loose too much of the E-Class identity that they have been building since the late '90s. If I remember correctly, the E-class is their biggest seller, so they have to be able to reel in both the folks who love the E-Class, and those who are on the bench as to what they like.

I actually don't like what they've done to the front end here. Everything vees in towards the middle too much, makes it look mousey.

I don't like how they squished the back, it looks out of proportion. That or the angle makes it look worse than it actually is.

Is it a totally new car or just a mid-term face lift?
Just a facelift.

This is taken from the quote in the first post:
