Thanks, I use a Canon EOS-60D, with a Tamron 70-300mm Lens for this photo. 50% of the detail is luck, I must have taken 100 shots from the same place, with 1/320 shutter speed it's not that difficult to get a clean shot, but since I was pretty close and the car was accelerating towards me, the focus isn't always spot-on, the car was also facing in to the sunlight, so it was well lit. It always helps when you resize, I've cropped that a little, and in shrinking it Flickr seems to sharpen it somewhat.

Since you're in Northampton I appreciate Silverstone is an easy venue (I'm pretty local too), but it's not a great place for taking pictures, for the most part, there's too many fences and you're too far away from the action to get a way with a 'short' lens. Brands on the other hand is pretty good for photo's, with the beautiful leafy setting making the photo's a lot more interesting than Silverstone's desolate wide open feel.

I see what you mean, I also live close to Doington which may be better but there is still the fences every where and where there isn't any fences you are too far away. I want to go the Olton park as there is allot of trees so its not open and flat like Silverstone but I cant travel that far.
Ther is Malery park which is probably really good but the events that I want to go to just are not there.

What camera do you use? edit: Nikon Coolpix L820 I see.

Oulton is a nice venue, though I've not been back there since I got in to taking photo's. Donnington has a couple of good spots, importantly, as with Druids corner at Brands, if you can get close enough to the fence, the camera will focus so far beyond it that the fence itself becomes virtually invisible, and there's a good chance that you're 'shooting through the gaps'. Bigger aperture settings help with this.

This will often work better:

Camera === | fence | ======================================== Car/object

Than this (even though the car is closer):

Camera =========| fence |======= Car/object

As an example, this was from the same weekend as the Lambo shot, taken with the camera maybe a foot away from the sodding great big catch fence at druids (again with the EOS-60 at 286mm (actually used my 500mm which is not a great quality lens at all))
