Today's mystery reveal was indeed the new Edge. I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment. Front end looks like one of those dogs that don't have a snout. (Bull Dog?)

It looks like the new Sonata and Legacy up front. I really like this though. Why can't they do something more car-like with those interior proportions?

Looks like a Santa Fe in the front and a Jeep Cherokee in the back.:ill:

Though the interior seems nice.

Yeah, the design doesn't really offend me, or excite me. Edge Sport sounds interesting, but that's about all I have.

How passive-aggressive of you.
Really, following the Explorer "downsizing" or whatever you want to call it, the point of the Edge is awfully suspect considering how small the price gap is. Especially when the next Explorer is supposed to move to the smaller platform this new Edge will use.

Why bother with teasers of a car that nobody gets excited about? Now the next time Ford wants to tease the next Focus RS, Raptor, or Shelby Mustang they'll have a harder time garnering interest.

Why would the Explorer move to a smaller platform when it currently competes directly with the Durango and Chevy Traverse, and whatever other similarly sized trucks are out there?

As far as I can tell, the Edge kind of competes with those except it's considerably smaller. What exactly it's for I'm not sure. Nissan Murano? Is that the right size?

What about the Flex? It's in the middle of both, but longer and more stylish. I mean, as long as they're making a profit I guess.

Although it isn't entirely groundbreaking, it is important after all. Ford sells a bazillion of them each year, it is moving to a newer (and better) global architecture, and its going EcoBoost-only, making it a perfect rolling advertisement for all of Ford's new things. Although I wouldn't have considered the current Edge to be entirely competitive, this new one should shake things up a bit, and be a good soft-road alternative to the slightly larger Explorer. And, once again, it shows that GM is asleep behind the wheel...

For what it's worth, I'd take a current Equinox of Granite over an Explorer any day because the driver's position actually fits a human being. The Explorer has a miserable driving position and is sized for 300 pound people. The Durango is also much, much better than the Explorer. The Edge was better than the Explorer but not good enough.

No the 3.5L V6 will be available.

Overall it just looks very bland and forgettable.
The old Edge, even though its getting a bit old now, stood out from the crowd. It had class, put a Land Rover badge on the front and people wouldn't ever guess its a Ford (possibly one of the reasons the Lincoln MKX sold relatively well). This, though, will blend right in with the Santa Fes and Highlanders of the world.👎

With the Land Rover comment, I have to ask; you sure you aren't thinking of the Flex?

I'm disappointed. The Edge is prolific here - in the same way the Mazda3 is - and I actually like the current one. This looks incredibly bland up front, though I like the familial tie out back. This new Ecoboost V6 sounds promising too. But the front... I had to scroll up again just to remind myself about it already.

The front doesn't look very special, the interior looks bland and dated (what's with the small screen? Ford has been fitting much larger screens to their cars for the last couple of years).

I do like the design of the rear though. Those tail lights are brilliant.
