This looks quite exciting!
Curious to what you people think.

Pretty happy myself to see this beast hooning round da ring, and I absolutely love fast, sporty, wagons. Looking forward to see this put into production, and hopefully it sells!

First thing I noticed ......

 !

Wow, you're right. I didn't even consider that.

Anyway, 50 grand? Seriously? Pass!

Probably, looks like exhaust heat damage to me. :S
That's a feature, so that they know the car has been tracked and cancel your warranty :D

50 grand in Canada, maybe,
Here Golf R was 34-36ish before options. It's irrelevant though, there's about 0.01% chance that VW will bring it over.

I'm not sure it's an R though, badging seems to be just 2.0 with some special edition badge added.

The thread title had me excited, but this is nothing like a Suzuki Wagon R...

Dear Volkswagen: You will be hearing from our lawyers shortly. We demand $10 bn in small bills delivered by express mail to Japan. Thank you.

So, VW is finally making their own version of the Octavia vRS? Good for them. :D

Hmm.. Good point, Yssman. I have, however, ran across European GM products. *shudder*

That's basically how we feel about Mexican VWs. I know VW has a great reputation in Europe but somewhere between there and Mexico the quality control book got thrown out the window.

Then again, these days it seems everybody is having problems with everything.

Would an R be from Mexico?

either way not a fan, the Golf Wagon doesn't look right, would prefer the hatch.

Wow.... I can't really make a post as to why the RS6 is better (other than the front grille) because this is going to be a bit cheaper... Mexico or not, I'd still have it.

edit:
then again, the Passat in wagon variant also looks just as good, maybe better with its grille.

There's one thing that's good about the fact it won't be sold in US: It won't be made in Mexico.
Why is that good? You are for more immigrants coming to the US to work in American factories, when Mexico is trying to create their own economy?

Because it won't make the Volkswagen Golf's reputation as unreliable car any worse. It's not like they would have sold enough R Variants for stopping of the Mexican production if they didn't make it. Most likely it would have been worse for them to make R version of the Golf instead of some standard model.

That still doesn't negate the fact that they will be produced in Mexico. It doesn't mean that since they will not come to the US their reliability scores go up everywhere else..

300hp 2.0 engine made with the same quality as other Mexican made Volkswagens would be unreliable enough to make it to international motoring news.
