24 hour races - How long have you left your PS2 running for?

I have just brought a new PS2, have done the real circuits on extreme events, and now wanna have another crack at the Nurburgring 24 hour race.

Just worried that it's basically a brand new PS2, so having it on for what might be 100 consecutive hours harm it in any way?

How long have you left your PS2 on for?

A few days ago, I left it for 12 hours. I know, it's not the same as to leave it for 24 hours, but if you do a little bit of search, you will see many drivers (including moderators) have left their PS2s on for many days, even weeks.

Months. I haven't counted.. occasional cut in power might have shut it off for few hours but thats it. same goes for my PS3 :D

I spent about 10 days each for all three 24hour-races.
I think you should worry more about powercuts than overheating..

Also, seeing as you just bought this PS2, it is probably the updated price-drop model which runs far and away cooler than the older slimlines and perhaps even the fatboys.

You'll be very very much more than fine.

I want to say that I left my slim on for 6 or 7 days when i ran one of the 24 hour races.

Never had any problems with the system afterwards.

Just make sure that you have it in a well ventilated area.

I left mine on for 3 weeks once, to complete the F1 races. Right now, i'm into teh 4th hour of the Le Mans race, the PS has been on for about 2 weeks now. I just don't have the time to complete more than 1 hour a day.

Well, my only problem is it's starting to get real hot here in Japan.

I have to go to work on weekdays, so I'd imagine my lounge will get hot without the a/c on.

Oh well, I'm doing it anyway!

Actually, you wear the console more, if you turn it on and off each day. It's a long explanation about technichs I got years ago, about computers. The more the small electric components have to warm up and cool down, the more they wear. Just like cars basically. If you do more long runs, and fewer cold starts and not just drive it to the grocer and back again every day, the engine will last longer.

Don't worry about the heat. Playstations are MADE in Japan, and they have plenty of cooling :)

It will run forever until something decides to die, it will never die from running too much only when components die out, which would happend at that particular time slot of use either way. Trust me, circuit boards frying etc are the least of the worry. Circuit boards are amazing pieces of technology they can easily last 20+ years the only thing that could die in general are moving parts such as the laser, disc motor, the fan and if you have the old Ps2 the drive mechanism.
But all in all you could leave it on for 10 years straight - the drive spinning and - the fan, and your Ps2 would still work fine.

I can only bspec in the 24 hour races due to the fact that if i use a-spec mode on a 24 hour race, i may crash and fall asleep. I let it run by itself and I make sure that I have a fast enough car that it could make up for time lost in random spinouts and pits.
