Just thought of this do you guys think it would be cool if there was an event that was a 24 hour race and it split people into teams. After so many hours or whatever time ratio they have it set to, you would go to the pits and switch drivers. I don't know this might be some crazy far fetched idea. Might be a GT5 thing. But tell me what you guys think, so i can know if i am the only one.

I would love that, Pd would have to do some seriuos work on there servers though first lol. Can you imagine getting disconnected after 23 hours lol. They do have 24 hour races on Live for speed on the pc, so it must be possible.

i love the idea. but i bet my wife would hate it. and imagine your 10 hours in and 18 laps back, do you want to drive for 14 more hours or will you "lose" connection?

Actually this isn't a far fetched idea. rFactor supports realtime driver changes for endurance races up to 24 hours online.

anything is possible, but the online network needs way more time to evolve

This is probably why 24 hour online racing with driver changes won't happen at first. PD is very inexperienced with online so I doubt it will happen early in GT5's online life.

With NASCAR 2003 if your computer got completely shut off in the middle of an online race you could reboot it, come back 5 minutes later and join the race. The game would keep any damage or lost gears you had but would penalize you one lap from where you were before the disconnect as punishment

When I did a 24 hour online race with 2 other drivers personally it didn't matter that we were something like 20 laps back 16 hours in, the whole experience of driving for 24 hours and sharing a car with two other drivers made it all worthwhile. Of course in my 24 hour race there was damage and mechanical failures, so the idea of just finishing the race was satisfying.

As for the possibility of losing connection late in the race, a 6 year old NASCAR game allowed you to rejoin a running online race even if you got disconnected with minimal penalty. So I have faith it can be done

Perhaps PD could start by sticking a few 20 lap races together with prenominated drivers taking over at auto imposed pit stops. That would be easier on the coding side.

As someone said previously, I agree with PD being a little inexperienced when it comes to online, having said that, I'd be happy with a few 2-4 hour races on the first(ish) GT5 updates.

PD really should give us to 'beta-test' some 20-lappers with tyre-wear and pit stops. I believe that if we get them only to full-version, they will be just as screwed up as many things is/were in Prologue from beginning.

This ten-lapper we have now, is brilliant! I'm so happy that they really are listening 'us' sometimes... so is 'No RBE too'.

I hope, and think that this ten-lapper is one step to the next improve, which might be tyre-wear update. 10 lap is just perfect length for 'beta-test' tyre wearing, cause it would let some people choice to drive with R1's, which are still quite fine in the end, or choose R3's and having hard times in last laps. That way they dont need to add pit stops yet, what propably is huge packet to give us, cause it changes so many things in race structure.

Nowadays it feels so strange that some months ago we still had 3lap races, and ridiculous RBE there! Real Driving Simulation yeah! grip changing in every lap, so you never will learn how game-engine acts finally.

Edit: I just remembered one thing what I have wondered long time... why cant they add qualifying to expert-races? It would not be hard that we would drive one hotlap at same time when game is doing 'player matching'? That matching very often takes time so long, that we could drive almost one lap there, and since first gets his lap finished, his name would appear in grid-list in that order he is. It would be exciting to wait how others will do, and how far from pole you will end up.

Interesting! But what if you start matching after a few others already have? (You know, when your matching bar moves fairly quickly) then you wouldn't have enough time to run a qualifying lap.

I think qualifying anyway will make race-starting longer. I dont see there a problem for me... it would be much more interesting to wait extra, and wait everybody to finish their hotlap, than watching that boring 'matching players' screen.

Qualifying would solve so many big problems in online-races... from 'tactic PP lowering' to 'smaller PP custom-events'. Also slower drivers would get not so many scratches while racing, when fast guys would not need to pass them... less scratches, less whinging.
