350Z Drift problems

Hi guys, I kinda need some help.

It's not a lot of time since I started driftin, and now I'm having some problems in doing it with my favourite (and real as well) car, the 350Z.

I used Boundary Layer's guide for the S2000 setting, and I had literally no problems in getting the S2k sideways (BL did a great job in doing that guide, really). Problem is, as said before, I can't find a proper setting for the 'Z. I tried to apply BL generic setting to it, but she still won't drift in a appropriate manner.

Do I need a certain amount of HPs? I run with a 350hp car, with S2 tires and no driving aids.

Does any of you guys have any suggestions? Keep in mind that I use the DS2 and I'm quite a newbie in mastering the snapback of a drift.

Thanks in advance

A little more hp would help, but it all depends on your style. And change the tryes to n2. And keep trying different settings until you find one you like.

Thanks FBD, I'll try adding some more Hps. One thing... I made some mess with the tires...I use N2, not S2 (I need to get used to how you call 'em here).

Any suggestion in how to reduce the snapback? The weight of the car is lowered at max. Do I need a roll-cage?

If this is about drifting, then it needs to go in the Drift settings forum. Ask a moderator to put it there for you.

Just like throttle control you need steering control. You can't go full lock contersteer all the time. I use the directional buttons on the DS2 to drift with. And what I do is tap the button in the direction of countersteer repeatedly until I'm out of the drift. So if its a right turn, I'll turn right and get the drift started and then tap left until the end of the drift and straighten out. But practice makes perfect so you'll soon get the hang off it.👍

I drive in the same way as you do, doing little "taps" on the digital directional buttons. Fact is, with the S2000 I do it good, but with the Z it seems impossibile...I think it's more a fact of setting than driving skills...

Well, it would be more clear if he'd mention that in the first post...

Turn off all TCS, put on N1's, if it doesn't work, sorry but then, you suck at drifting :tonque:

Well, if you would have read some of the other posts you would of seen that I already told him to change his tyres, and you would of seen that he had made a mistake and corrected it in his next post.

I apologyze for not have posted this weekend, but I've been very busy, and other than that, I had a bike tour programmed with I friend wich I forgot. Today or tomorrow at max, I'll post here the setting I use on the Z.

Sorry again.

No worries.

oh, I heard my name.

The 350Z was always a pest for me on the DS2.
We did a DSJ a year ago on the Nismo Z33. Several of us posted settings and I think everyone in the thread found something they were happy with. You can read it here: DSJ Vol 2
Start reading somewhere around post 19 or so and give a glance to Ske's settings, and my own posted in post 33. We worked pretty closely on that car and were IM-ing each other whenever something worked for one of us. ekmatt posted several revisions as well.
I wouldn't worry much with reading the rationale behind everyone's tuning steps - most of us (myself included) were confused by how different settings altered this cars behaviour. I had to change my tuning approach on this car two or three times if I recall. Just look for final settings and give em a try.

There's also some settings posted by Droptop Chick in the Drift Settings Depot.

Even if you don't end up using these exact settings, or if you're using a different version of the Z33, I hope there's a few ideas that translate well for you.

Luck! 👍

Thanks for the links, BL, I'll give 'em a go as soon as I have some free-time.

Thanks again.
