Yep, been quite obvious for a few weeks now.
I've noticed a fair few on my friends list who dropped off have been very active of late as well as a new generation influx.
In some ways it's almost been like a Christmas noob fest killing field out there.

I'm also seeing lots of professional drivers playing GTSport because of Covid-19, and some of the most well known automotive photographers using Scapes Mode

Covid-19 will probably boost the sales to GT4/5 numbers. Very much beyond the sales expectations of anyone.

LT sales I believe will end up around 10-11 million. Not too shabby.

It's strange to say it's good to see when the reason behind it is so terrible.

This does explain the recent connection issues, particularly on FIA days. I imagine the current working conditions make this difficult for PD and Sony to adapt to.

This does explain the recent connection issues, particularly on FIA days. I imagine the current working conditions make this difficult for PD and Sony to adapt to.

Its not just the influx of players, Sony along with the streaming giants like Nflix and others have of course been trying to cut back and scale down on the amount of bandwidth they use to accommodate the new interwebs massive demands resulting from so many trying to work from home as well as children trying to do remote learning from home school stuff.
I would assume connection issues for daily and FIA events will be around for some time now.
Some might say "first world problems eh?', but then again given that first world problems now include a pandemic that hypothetically could end civilization (drastic doomsday scenario) I'm hoping I might at least get a break from people throwing that trope one liner about all willy nilly at least.

The vast majority of players don't play the game much, let alone ever thinking to create a second account.

And as a matter of fact, the raise in activity spreads across all profiles. I've updated the GT Sport new Players stat to add active players over the last 30 days for each profile creation week.

I disagree. Alt accounts probably make up quite a big number. I have 5 accounts. 1 I hardly ever used. I know plenty of people with at least 2 accounts. It's very common and I'm sure plenty of households have different accounts when using a shared system.

This raises the question of to why people want to know the actual copy sales:
A- To measure the game's audience? -> Number of players is even a more straightforward indicator.
B- To measure the developer income? -> copy doesn't all sell at the same price, the developer share varies from physical to digital, and some copy are even bundled with console.
C- To measure success? -> see B.

I don't know the proportion of players (which i think is almost equal to profiles) per game copy, and don't think it matters.
