Here's the announcement from Sony:
"We have discovered that in the 2nd round of GT Academy, faster lap times can be achieved by cutting corners on one of the courses - Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.
To be fair to all participants in the competition, we have chosen a different course for Round 2-1. The rankings for Round 2-1 and the Total Rankings have been reset, following this change. The end date of the competition will remain the same (Feb 6).
We truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused all of you who are participating in Round 2. We hope you continue to enjoy GT Academy."
...where does it say "don't go off the track"? Is there another source that I am missing?
I would love it if the penalty system include all off-track adventures (like the old license tests), or if the grass was painfully slow and dangerous (like in the real life video I posted in another thread). However, that is not the case in this competition, and nothing from the sponsors has indicated differently.

Let people focus on driving fast on the racing surface with a 2-off rule. In real racing we can put two off on the inside of the apex hopping the curb and be ok, going wide in real life and going off does not make you faster because going wide+2 off will usually mean loss of control, or a dramatic slow down to avoid losing control. None of this flooring it while all four tires are in the grass and drifting back onto the racing surface.
4 tires off = Red lap. Please!

To be honest i will mow the lawn all competition with no shame (But what was going on at Indy was a whole different level). But on the flip side i do understand the difference between reality and a video game. Pretty sure everyone else knows when we get strapped into the real deal that running wide isn't a smart move in REALITY. And to be honest i can post just as fast a time without running wide it just happens my fast lap right now i did, but i wasn't gonna back out of it because i did. Theres alot at stake here and i'll be damned if i don't make it to at least Orlando.

I'm not saying 4 wheels off SHOULDNT be a straight DQ. I think it should be. I know it is in the real world. All I'm saying is that your title is referring to in-game and it is incorrect.
And I got news for you, just because I'm telling you your wrong doesn't mean I'm a "sheep" that's following in the grass. I race clean. So quit being in denial and just change the thread title. If you made it "4 wheels off should be a straight DQ" then it wouldn't contain any false information.

Not to back the passionate OP, but it would not be very hard for PD / Nissan to watch 64 replays, especially with a week lull between rounds. Just sayin'.

I don't see whats pure win about dive bombing dangerously into a turn, overshooting into the dirt and cutting the track all at the same time. If thats your thing then sure, its pure win, to me though it was pure fail that he wasn't flagged for the illegal pass.
I guess since he cut the corkscrew we should all just go back to Indy, since cutting is pure win.
Edit: After that they made a rule that at least one tire must remain on the racing surface. Also, Zinardi I believe said in his book that he was going to hit B.H. if he didn't see him and make room. B.H. made room and Zinardi flew by shortcutting the corkscrew and in today's motorsport would have to give back the position that was gained, but in 1996, they decided to let it fly after it was protested by B.H.'s team. It made for good TV, I am sure thats why they didn't overturn it, the majority of people I have ever seen comment on this issue have hated the pass and thought he should have been penalized for it. I agree with them. If he didn't overhsoot the turn, go off track, he would have never gained the position, therefore he gained the position by going off track which is illegal everywhere except for CART in 1996 evidently.

why dont they use the penalties system. i use it on all my online lobby races if you try to cut coners in my lobby you get a "time out" 9 sec i think or if you hit someone. anyway this should be used in the GT races.
he got lucky on that day, with those judges. its not a good example.
and its not a good clean pass, he planned this ahead but judges said "he had to go off". Big debate. I would have DQ'd him.
Some wouldn't. Track got updated to eliminate this kind of pass. No more debates allowed
