6 Speed over Fully Custom tranny?

Seeing how we can't change individual gear ratios (yet)...would you agree with this?
what about cost efficiency?
I will note this kills top speed

Depends very much on the car. Some of my cars would be MILES faster with being able to adjust the individual gear ratios, others don't mind and actually see me setting the "autoset" to a higher top speed than the car will every actually reach. (GT350R comes to mind, with the supercharger it's got ~570hp from 5200 to 6800rpm or so) I've never actually used the super-close gearbox although it's probably very good for extremely tight tracks.

I've been useing the close ratio rather than the FC.
FC is a waste of "money" at this point in the game... My opinion.

It's 20 grand; building a car that is competitive for the later events costs north of 400 grand. The higher up events pay 70-100k for 5 minutes of racing.

Not exactly expensive IMO.

I'm pretty sure that in the OP's case he is on lower level events. I don't think this thread would have been created if he was getting 90k a race. The close-speed trannys are usually perfect for the "1"-make races early on. No need to dump 20k into a miata, etc where its not needed.

I've almost done every event that uses "street cars" and have not found the need to spend 20k on a transmission that does not allow you to customize the gear ratios. For 8k I'll take the close ratio 6spd that at least is a close ratio box. The 20K FC box has a wider ratio gearset... making it much less desirable in my opinion.
I'm not saying the FC transmission is expensive, I'm saying for less "money" you get a close ratio box.

When it comes to racing "racecar" events, I will use racecars, that already come equiped with the "FC" box... rather than juicing up a "streetcar" to compete.

A adjustable gearbox is a must have for all my cars i like! I usually set top speed about 10 or 20 km/h above maximum speed of the fastet section for a track.
It makes a huge difference in my opinion. There is no need to have a car running 330km/h if you `re not even close to that on a track.
I`d say you will sacrifice alot of potential without a adjustable gearbox.

Fully agree, learnt this the hard way. I bought a 6six close ratio box for some american muscle car it maxed out at 120mph and I kept throwing money at it buying every other part excluding the FC transmission, upon doing so before calling it quits it transformed the car to actually be competivite

Same here. The non adjustable boxes are a total crap shoot. You might get something decent or borderline unusable. I'm not wasting any more money trying to find out.
