Ralf has been advised to take 6 years off work to recover from his last 2 accidents. A little excessive as no real harm seems to have been done, Anyway it's up to him if he listenes to the advice...

I read all this in an article in

http://www.seasonedf1.com/

6 YEARS ?... I wish my Doctor would advise me to take 6 years rest..

"Sorry boss, can't come in for the next... like .. - 6 years. Doctors' order...."

Thats a bit silly. 6 years? I would suspect the "increase in health" becomes a bit marginal after a year.

Have you seen the end of the article?

"SeasonedF1 would like to wish Ralf all the best in his recovery, but for reasons we cannot disclose, we are unable to."

Very grown up they are

And underneath the pic at the bottom of the article "*Dr Liezshlots has no experience of working with F1 drivers"

Not that's been made available. I doubt it would show much beyond smoke and a flash of impact. I imagine FIA would have whatever there is and is reviewing it.

6 weeks sounds a lot more realistic than 6 years. I wouldn't be surprised if he missed the next race really, but we'll just have to see how things go. Personally, I'll only trust testimony from Ralf himself and people close to him as to what's been said and what will happen.

Hahaha, I (as I've said before MANY times) don't think Ralf has what it takes to be an asset to a big-ish team. I think he's lucky to be getting a ride with Toyota, I personally believe he should retire soon if he doesn't get some REAL results. Anyway, my 2c.

I wouldn't trust seasoned F1 to give accurate coverage, frankly they seem like a bunch of obnoxious kids.

Whether Ralf or not is perceived to be an asset is also irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact he took a huge blow, had a bad concussion and Im not sure should be racing for awhile. Concussions can be hell if you don't give them to heal. Some people get them more easily then others. Brett Lindros(yes, younger brother of Eric) was playing for the Islanders when he got his 5th concussion(5th was rather nasty) in a 3 year span. Doctor said you can either continue playing and risk suffering far worse damage or you can call it quits with your head in one piece. He retired. Not saying Ralf should retire, just that if he pushes the envelope another hard hit could leave him permantly scarred. Hopefully the right decision is made.

I don't think Ralf will seriously take 6 years away from the sport. Maybe 6 races, and that's it. In any case, I suppose Marc Gene will have something else to do now than test the car in a Budweiser ad.

Nobody in the world of sport takes that much time off, they'll play or race or do whatever until they're forced to call it quits. The longest break from action I can think of was Joe Montana; he took about 2 years off as quarterback for the 'Niners, but most players/drivers would just about give up if they didn't have the heart, ability, or money to stay in shape while they're not doing their thing.

I can't think of many drivers that returned from 6 years away from the sport... Prost did 3 didn't he? That's the most I can recall in recent years.

6 years? I think not. 6 weeks maybe. If you stay out of motorsport for a long period of time, you lose your sense of timing. 1 Year is bad enough. Not that Ralph really had it anyway.

I couldn't stop p*ssing myself laughing when JPM got Black Flagged.

The fact that none of the accurate web sites are running this story makes me call BS on it. I would say that the longest he would be out is two races, which would mean a return in Germany, his home race, the home race of BMW and Allianz, and also the race where it is suggested the Toyota announcement will be made.

The longest "enforced" break I can think of is Rally Driver Richard Burns, who is currently taking a year off to recover from a brain tumour. Prost's absence was voluntary.

Uh, one month if memory serves, that was the 1994 incident just after the tragedy at Imola correct? I remember the incident, not the driver =/, but it fits.

Edit: He was out for longer actually, I think he was in a coma for a month. I'll go googling.

Edit: According to this site he was out for the rest of the 1994 season. Link: http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/rr552.html
