Xbox me no like
mabye not a revalation to everyone but, i just went from a 22 720P pc LCD to a 40" 1080P tv and wow what a differance. I figured it would look better but considering i was doubbling the screen size i didnt think it would look a hole lot better. I couldnt have been more wrong. I've spent all day playing different games and watching movies, its been like getting the next gen system all over again. For anyone whos on the fence about making the upgrade from 720 to 1080, do it. the differance is crazy. Still blowing me away.

Callibrate it and it will look even better!

www.hdtvtest.co.uk see if your TV is in there and it will tell you best settings.

Dunno, I play GT5 in 720p (despite having 1080p TV) - the IQ is so much better, the framerate is better, and less screen-tearing (same goes for other games with non-native resolutions BTW). The only thing in GT5 that looks better while in 1080p is the menus.

What make of TV is it?

My Samsung is better in 1080p, so is my friends Sony!

Sony W5500 series. Don't get me wrong, games in 1080p still look awesome, but I just hate upscalled (blurry) resolutions. I'm waiting for next-gens for 1080p.

Btw The TV still has to upscale it to 1080p even if PS3 set to 720p, set ps3 to 720p and the TV upscales the picture or set to 1080p and PS3 upscales the picture!

Try this mate!

Page6 has the settings. For movie watching primarily but put in GAME MODE and use them settings as a start point!

A bit misleading, as resolution will have little to do with the difference your seeing. A good TV will have much better contrast and color reproduction than that of a 22" monitor, regardless of 720 or 1080 lines. And those two alone are far more important to have over a higher HD resolution.

^ Me to actually, I'm behind the curve i know. I dont have a ton of money so i figured the price differance wasnt worth it, i was wrong :) As far as the other set being for a PC I've watched many movies on it and the color was never a problem or contrast. It runs at 240hz as well so when stuff gets moving fast that little moniter looks pretty good. I got the TV from RAC, so im thinking of swapping it for a set running 120hz or better. ( i know 100% intrest but what do yah do i cant afford to buy it out right)

I use a 48" LED TV. Nothing wrong with it. very nice colors. Kinda difficult to calibrate, so the colors are either extreme or the brightness is not enough, etc. The sound is blocked on the sides by my stupid display case so the sound is a bit icky T_T.

i think my TV can handle 1440p...

I think that 1440 would be the number of pixels you have on the horizontal axis. The number in 1080p is the number of pixels on the vertical axis.

What looks better depends on the native resolution of the screen. As an example, my 32" Sanyo TV has a native resolution of 1080p, and stuff in 1080p looks great in terms of res, while stuff in 720p looks worse that what it should look like.

The 19'' Viewsonic TV I use as a computer monitor has a native res of 1440X900.
While in this resolution it looks great, anything else and it doesn't look much great anymore. GT5 in 720p looks real bad on this screen.

The reason for this is that LCD and Plasma screens have a fixed number of pixels, so if you try to display anything else than the ''native'' resolution of the screen, the image quality will greatly suffer as the screen tries to upscale the image.

CRT screens on the other hand (and maybe DLP though I am not sure) have a maximum amount of pixels they can display, but no fixed amount. So it will always look good no matter what resolution you use.

Also, that high HZ stuff is just a way to make people pay more money. The human eye can't really see the difference over 30fps and I know of no device appart from PCs which output more than 60fps.

He means 2560x1440, 2560 being on the horizontal axis and 1440 being on the vertical. Not that this would have anything to do with GT5, it can barely do 1080p without a big hit in performance, and even then it's only upscaled not native.

Welcome to the 1080P club!
I feel your joy and trust me, this is only the start of your enjoyment.

Having a good TV always help. 720P is the best mode even if someone has bigget than 32. But trying out both modes is a good idea. Some people set it at 1080P mode for all the games

?????????

If you have a 1080p TV then you are always getting 1920 x1080. The scaling is done by the TV even if PS3 set to 720p, it just depends which has the better scaler, the TV or PS3 as to which looks better!

If your tv is 1080p capable thats what it should be on,setting 720p on your ps3 with a 1080p tv will only cause input lag and blurrier textures, even if the game is native 720p.
My ps3 automatically switches to the best resolution for the game,if i put gt5 in,the info panel on my tv says 1080p @ 60 hertz, but if i put skyrim in it says 720p @ 60 hertz.

If your not sure let the ps3 automatically set your display options in the xmb,if it picks 1080p leave it at that.

Correct:tup:

GT5 actually looks better on my 1080P 24" computer monitor than my TV and I dont see any tearing on my monitor.

Actually an IPS panel monitor will have much better picture reproduction than a TN panel TV. Even LED TV's are TN panels. Its just the backlight is LED. IPS Monitors are very expensive and I dont think you can get an IPS panel TV.

Imagine how much a 55" IPS panel television would cost... Damn would it look good though.

Welcome to 2006

I'm still rocking out the 27 inch crt. 👎

It's not that I'm poor. It's that I'm 18........ And I'm poor. But who isn't at this age?

@op Il pay for shipping if you want to send me your old monitor :sly:
But seriously. Il even post a video of me unboxing it in a dress if you want.

I use one level of digital filtering (out of two) on my 52'' Sharp Aquos in 1080p, and that seems to help any tearing. I never saw a lot of screen tearing anyway though. I think a lot of tearing can be exaggerated by some TVs and smoothed out on others. I 've never seen GT5 on anything other than my big TV.. I don't even think I'd play it if I had to use a tiny TV.

The PS3 tears, your TV settings have absolutely nothing to do with it!

I aslo very rarely notice tears. I get stutters at times, but probably mostly due to me not having GT5 fully installed. Never happened on my other PS3 when I had it installed on the 7200rpm drive.

I have a 50" Vizio Plasma. Only issues I have are the black areas on each side cause the picture doesn't fit the whole screen, and reds seem to blur at times.

I know the ''PS3 Tears''. I'm not stupid. I also know some TVs and some monitors are better at hiding it or lessening it's visual severity. It's the same with PC computer games and different monitor setups. CRT/ LCD, different brands, etc.. I also said I use digital fitering, did you catch that part? A TV absolutely has ''something to do with'' how things LOOK ON the TV- Not the tearing that the PS3 produces. REad my post again.
