Award ceremony to be held on the evening of Sunday, 5th March.

It makes me wonder when a movie about gay cowboys that didn't even have any gay people on the production set is up for "best picture"

The Academy awards are so useless.

how do you know? i'm sure they had some hairdressers and costume designers on the set. ;)

and why should that be neccessary? its a move and it should be done by people who make movies. actors, directors, cameramen etc. they don't need to be gay to make a movie about homosexuals and they should not be chosen according to their sexuality because that would indeed be discrimination. ;)
a women writer can also write a book about a male character...similarily, actors are supposed to act, not to be themselves...

Yeah, that would be all well and good. Except of course for the fact that this movie is being used by some groups to push the whole homosexual agenda.

Anyway, sure you can be a man and write about women, but you'd have enough sense to consult with or even be friends with women while you're doing it.

Oh, I know through a report a read when the movie was the latest thing.

I guess it just annoys me personally that everyone made such a big deal about it. I haven't seen it and don't plan on seeing it. Just wondering what it was such a big event.

Few people I know that did see "Brokeback Mountain" wasn't that impressed. They all said that it was "pretty good, nothing special".......... except one of my coworkers did like it. Oh, yeah, he is gay.

I haven't seen any of these films, but I'm going to guess who's going to win...

the only people i have noticed who make a big deal about it are the people who say they are surely not going to see it. ;)

I vote Brokeback To The Future.

What happened to Star Wars? I think its visual effects far surpass King Kong's. ILM ftw.

Uh, you saw the T-rex fight...right?

Nice to see "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" get the Best Animated Oscar, though I do like Hayao Miyazaki work ("Howl's.." isn't quite as good as "Spirited Away" though).
"King Kong" gets best visual effects. I've not seen the film yet so could'nt say if it deserved it over the other nominations. And I was surprised not to see Star Wars EpIII as a nomination in visual effects.

Had to watch during din din because stupid parents were watching. WTF was that rap ****?? :odd: You know they are rappers when the try to rap to non-rap music.

Yes, 3-6 Mafia won for "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp." Not only was it not even good rap, these clownshoes do NOT belong at the Oscars. They even had the audacity to swear during their acceptance speech. Lovely, the Oscars are now on par with the MTV Movie Awards.

On the other hand, I am glad Brokeback didn't win Best Picture, because Crash was a FAR superior film that deserved the title. And, you can go rent it if you haven't seen it instead of having to go to the theatre.

All in all, a pretty satisfactory ceremony. Jon Stewart's humour was a bit lost on some of the adience, but I thought he was an excellent host. Although there have been better opening montages.

And please, someone tell Lauren Bacall she should have brought her reading glasses. Her speech was absolutely unbearable. I was literally cringing in my seat. I almost couldn't watch it.

haha 3 6 mafias performance was different. the best part was when they went to accept the award lol.

the cameraman would scroll thru the audience and you'd see people laughing. i love rap for its bounciness but the acceptance was pretty funny. save for the ebonics alotta ppl here have problems w/, there was so much enthusiasm i swear it was like a bunch of kids getting there first puppy.

Well, guess I'd better go round up a "Crash" DVD. I never got interested in it, even though I'd read quite a bit about it. It just never caught my interest.

It's a powerful film with an equally powerful message. I wasn't interested either when my girlfriend dragged me to see it, but I was really pleasantly surprised. It deserves the award.

I was debating watching Brokeback because of all the buzz, but when I saw the clips they showed during the Oscars, especially the ones of Heath with that stupid accent, I was completely turned off.

Did anyone see how Jake Gyllenhall was complaining to the red carpet guy about how everyone keeps asking him in interviews about the kissing scene so he's developed formulaic responses to the question? I was like, "Dude, YOU just brought it up. The interviewer never said a word!"

I was watching South Park on Saturday night. The episode was "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls", where a film festival comes to the village. Wendy drags Stan along to see loads of independant films, which Cartman describes as

"always about gay cowboys eating pudding"

Well done for predicting the future there, Stone & Parker.

I feel that both stars from "Brokeback Mountains" are way overrated actors. Only time I was actually able to put up with the acting of Heath Ledger was in "Monster's Ball", which he was in for like 20 minutes. :D I don't know the other guy's name(I've seen him in "Donnie Darko","Day After Tomorrow"), but I haven't been impressed by him either.

Almost forgot, I don't like the director either. I've seen just two of Ang Lee's work: "The Hulk" and the short feature he did for the BMW Films.com's "The Hire". Not a fan.

Neither am I. I give Lee credit for taking on big projects after Crouching Tiger, but I believe he totally ruined Hulk. That movie was a stinker; Ang Lee was the wrong choice for director. He spent too much time and gave too much attention to the characters and their relationships which, while central to most movies, doesn't really work in superhero movies. The audience is usually males aged 12-35, who as a rule don't give a crap about that stuff. All they want to see is "Hulk smash!"

Holy crap, Anderton. I didn't know he did "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"! There goes my stance on the director, I did like Crouching Tiger. :guilty:

That's okay; his post-CTHD work has been a departure from the style found in that movie. He's still a good director, but with Hulk he dropped the ball because he fiddled with the original idea of the Incredible Hulk too much in order to try and create some huge and dramatic masterpiece out of a comic book character.

I think he was given the award for Best Director this year because he took a risk and made a picture about a subject that is only just beginning to be accepted by mainstream society. I commend him on his work as well as his speech about how he dedicated Brokeback to all the gay men and women whose love is denied by society.

But I still don't have any interest in seeing it, not because of the subject matter but because I don't like the stars, I've heard it's only an okay movie, and the clips I saw failed to impress.
