I looked at this in horror :rscared: But hey you might like it? Well here's the new :vw: Beetle Cabrio...

NEW BEETLE CABRIO

Retro cabrio - first pic

The first pictures of Volkswagen’s New Beetle Convertible, which will make its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January, have been revealed. Despite its clear visual link with the original Beetle Convertible – one of the world’s best-selling open top cars – the new model is very different beast, with a front engined layout and modern safety features.

On sale in the UK in Spring next year, VW claim that the New Beetle Convertible will be one of the safest cars in its class thanks to high torsional rigidity and a rollover protection system that deploys automatically in an accident.

Three petrol engine options will be available from launch: a 1.4-litre 75 bhp, 1.6-litre 102 bhp and 2.0-litre 115 bhp, the latter being offered with a new six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The TDI PD 100 bhp diesel engine will be offered later.

Specification and pricing details for the New Beetle Convertible will be announced closer to the UK on-sale date.

No you are correct that looks awfull, same goes for the engine options
A W F U L L
yes indeed it is

i think that car already on the street.
i saw it in a mag , a company in miami made them for sale. ( you have to order )

but :vw: hold the production of the :vw: model until 2003/or 04

another company made the :ferrari: 456 spyder before :ferrari: made it. ( that was a few years ago)

sorry i don't find the expecific mag for refference,+ i don't have scanner to show it.

i have never really been a fan of beetles, or ever have i liked VW itself, they have gone over the top and made a bad car, worse......... much much worse!!

When i saw that car i almost vomited. I actually gaged, no lie! I actually did puke when i saw the other Cabrio (not the bettle) but i was sick then.

I've seen one on the road - I think they made twelve in all. One for the last Austin Powers movie, one for Rocky and Bullwinkle, one for some Coca-Cola games or something, and the rest sold at auction by VW. Good to see they're FINALLY going to build it; I was wondering what they'd do when Beetle sales dried up.

Sad to see that this will actually see production. The only VAG car with more cowl shake than a Mustang.

Ever since the Beetle went front-engined, it has been nothing but a girl's car. Not a woman's car, not a effeminate man's car, but a 16-year-old girl's first car. Period. Nice, sedate, semi-safe, cute as a ladybug. Totally not what I -- or any other person with more than a few milligrams of testosterone in them -- wants for a car. :P

WHY WHY DOES EVERONE HAVE TO MAKE CARS WITH LITTLE ENGINES, BEETLES MAKE ME VOMIT BEYOND BELIEF ( meglo cries) :(
its not fair, why cannot Ferraris be a standard car, that don't cost more than £100,000, or even listers, NSX's.
:(
it not fair it tell ya.

I might toss 'rich' in there - the cars are none too practical and they're purchased by these girls for one reason - cuteness!

Hopefully this and the PT convertable will sway the mass of women off of the Miata and onto these crappy cars...

BTW, 8 out of 10 times I see a Miata, a guy is driving. Now, before the Beetle and PT came out, the number was more around 4 out of 10, so this is getting better.

I'd like to thank VW for the Beetle, Chrysler for the PT, Toyota for the Echo, and the other companies who release POS cars for un knowlagable women to buy instead of buying up the good cars.

I consider the New Beetle one of the most cynical marketing exercises in automotive history (let me get this straight - you put a useless body on an otherwise perfectly serviceable Golf chassis, and you want to charge MORE for it?!?), and the convertible only furthers this line of thought.

On the plus side, there's an increased chance of pretty young things getting caught in the rain.

HAHAHAHA, good points and thoughts you two ;) As for the pole, I think there should have been an intermediate category-guess I'll go with "no comment". Hmm, I just read the available engines, at least I won't have to worry about one of them buggers beating my ride, even if I don't get any of my sensors fixed

Come to New York some time. You'd be shocked how many women are driving Boxsters, 911's, Z3's. It's not so much that they're the driver, but that they don't drive them well nor do they treat them well. Never have I seen so much neglect....

Fair comment - for what is pushed as a 'fun' car, they sure picked a formal colour for the photos - I'd expect to see a 7 series, and S-Class or an A8 in that colour for publicity photos, not a convertible Beetle - they should have picked a nice silver or something.

Hey man - women driving Boxsters might be bad, but come to Chicagoland some time. We've got people (and I'm not talking about SOME people, but a very high majority) who, when given the decision, would rather have the Prizm than the Corolla.

Whaaaat? :hypno: :scared: :banghead:

I can understand getting a RS over the WRX, a base RSX for the Type-S, and especially a A4 2.8 instead of the S4, but a PRIZM instead of even a COROLLA!?! Do people really care that little about the vehicle they drive? Oh, wait -- I just answered my own question. This is, after all, the nation that made the Civic a 20-year bestseller. :grumpy:

Heh - well, it's not much of a question of caring. Here in Illinois, people are nearly blind in their patriotism, and would much, much rather support their country than show sensibility.

That said, the Prizm is a decent used buy. It may not be as reliable (obviously), but it costs much less than its Toyota-twin of the same year, since the Toyota holds its value much better.

I was far off...

(if I said I was close, I would be dissing the MX-3...)

I knew it just wanted to say something way off to get a cheap laugh...
