Apparently, this is all true. Ask a history teacher to make sure.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.

John F Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners.

Both successors were named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are comprised of fifteen letters.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Kennedy'.

Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln'.

Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.

Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Creepy. :nervous:

I think those are true except for the part about Booth being assassinated. Apparently he ran into some barn or something and the authorities just set it a blaze. When the fire died down they found a body in there that might not have been Booth's. So, Booth may have escaped.

I've heard this before and there are some crazy coincidences. But you can probably find crazy coincidences when comparing just about anything.

Oswald didn't shoot Kennedy anyway.

That is so creepy!

I reckon half of that is strange coinsidnce or just plain old bull. But it was a pretty cool read!

I know they are all true except for the theater Lincoln was shot at and the secretary thing. True meaning what the US gov't has said. Wasn't Lincoln shot at Ford's Theater?

Not odd. When Senators have six year terms and Reps have two year terms as they do, every two years is an election year for around 480 people. :)

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

A bit more surprising, but when you know the above is true, the brilliance wears off both.

The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

Holy crap! Incredible  I've got the same number of characters as Reagan! I might one day get alzheimer's! My girlfriend's last name has the same characters as 'Bush!' Maybe she'll have twins.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

As would be any president running to get a popular vote in 1860 or 1960.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Eh. Crap happens. Especially to the Kennedys, for some reason. And in 1860, it was relatively common to lose children to various diseases.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Whoa!! One out of seven! Nowadays, presidents try to keep high profile stuff near the end of the week, too - not sure if this was true in 1960.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

 The assassins were shooting to kill, not to maim. Reagan was shot in the head, too, but he lived. Let's draw comparisons between the two.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

Those names are so extremely uncommon.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners.

Depends on your definition of southerners. Kennedy's assassin and succesor both came from Texas, which, in my book, isn't the south. John Wilkes Boothe (Lincoln's assasin) came from eastern Maryland, which is by no means the south. Andrew Johnson (Lincoln's successor) came from central Tennessee.

Both successors were named Johnson.

HOLY COW! More uncommon names.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

Wow. Does that, like, mean they were the same age?

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Incredible!! Does that mean they were the same age?!

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Whoa - hey, I've got another one: Both presidents were known by their two names. Though, damn, that doesn't work. Because John Kennedy was called John F Kennedy. So two names and an initial for one.

Both names are comprised of fifteen letters.

Incredible.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Kennedy'.

Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln'.

Lincoln was actually shot at Ford's Theatre, not Kennedy's theatre. Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln because at the time, presidents only rode in Lincolns (today, it's Lincs, Cadillacs, and Suburbans).

Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.

Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.

Booth was caught in a barn, and Oswald actually ran from a book depository, not a warehouse.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

As are most criminals. Street justice OWNZ.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

There is no city called Monroe, Maryland, nor was there at any time in United States history.

Here's for creepy:

One day in the 1960's, a fine young U.S. marine begins reading about Communism and Marxism and decides he's a Communist. Now, in the '60's, this idea wasn't very popular - especially when you try to force it on your fellow marines. So he was given a general discharge and he defected to Russia. Treated as a hero in Russia for leaving capitalism to join Communism, he renounced his citizenship at the U.S. embassy in Moscow.

So, a few years later, this guy decides he doesn't want to be a Communist anymore. So he goes back to the embassy and asks for his passport back. Then he tells them that he can't afford a ticket home, so he asks if they can pay for it (by law, they have to). So, yes. Then he tells them that he's got a fiancee who'll also need a ride to the United States. All they can do is pay for her ride to the USA and give her citizenship papers. So, the man goes back to his home in Texas, marries the woman, and has a kid with her.

Later, he shot John Kennedy.

Doesn't capitalism rule?

No, it's just I've heard these arguments literally hundreds of times (it's even posted in the DMV) so I've come up with fairly good reasons why they're worthless pieces of junk.

M5, you're always looking at the bottle as half empty, aren't you?
Well, if you meant a glass that's half empty, then yeah... assuming Doug's still sitting there. :smilewink

(Inside joke)

I think you don't get it.

That's only my opinion, though.

------
BTW, I'll have to echo what the others have said... wasn't Lincoln assasinated in Ford's theater?

And still, sitting here with a different glass, it hasn't been refilled.

Oh, and by the way - the reference to the Kennedy's Theatre crap, as it's been explained to me, is that Lincoln was shot in Ford's theatre, and Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln, which is a Ford product. Pathetic, yes; correct, yes; a stretch, yes.

I have seen this before. I took American History AP I know alot about History. Passed the class with A's. Most of this stuff is TRUE!!

How is it pathetic?

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

From: http://www.snopes.com/history/american/linckenn.htm

This is one of those coincidences that isn't a coincidence at all -- it's simply wrong. John Kennedy did have a secretary named Evelyn Lincoln (who may or may not have warned him about going to Dallas), but one searches in vain to find a Lincoln secretary named Kennedy. (Lincoln's White House secretaries were John G. Nicolay and John Hay.)

I've heard it before, but the truth was stretched to make these "coincidences."

The more troubling aspect of US Presidential assassinations was the fact that every 20 years (~4 terms) or so since Lincoln, a President was killed in office.

And the one whom broke the curse? None other than Ronald Reagan, whom survived an attempt on his life in 1981. I sure was scared, even as a 7 year-old, when I heard that news.

Dumbass Reagan. If he had died, the chain wouldn't ever have been broken and President Bush probably would be dead now, so to continue the chain.

(Disclaimer: The post above is totally inappropriate. Don't read if you intend to flame me.)

"Bush I" had the best insurance policy on his life:

...So if I shoot that guy (Bush), then that guy (Dan Quayle), becomes WHAT?!?!

(Throws gun away.)
