A few things about drifting

Right so I've given up on racing on gt5 and only really race for money to buy more drift cars.
I stopped playing for just over a month as I didn't really have the time, now I'm back every drift lobby is full of the same cars
The corvette zr1, the mercedes c63 amg and the dodge viper or supercars or race cars just doing laps. It seems not a lot of people can drift well anymore and everyone just seems to crash into everyone else. Im not the best drifter by any means but I can at least go a whole lap with out hitting someone else or spinning. So my main question is why are these the only cars I'm seeing? Is there something I'm missing?

Fast drifting cars...I thank formula d for the move from s-chassis(remember when every1 used the s13?) To the v8 and above chassis...speed has become the main concern over drift techniques..my suggestions are either to do as the romans and start drifting a v8 chassis or nab an fd rx7 or nsx and try to keep up...or as an alternative ignore those who drag race from corner to corner and don't attempt to tandem w/ a car unless they volunteer and are able to successfully follow in a tandem w/out ramming into your rear..you'd be surprised how many zr1 owners get owned because their tune won't allow them to drift under 75mph lol

Yeh my main drift cars are an s2000 and an fd rx-7 but I also have a type 2 camper for fun and the s13 I learnt in. But all the v8's just leave me.

i think all of the good drifters only their lounge and not online rooms because of those type of lobby's

I tend to notice this too, but I watch people and see that they use different tyre compounds (I use CH, someone else uses SH)

Same here. Its hard to use 90% of my cars, mostly because only 10% of them are "edge drifting machines", or something between Class S or A.

My biggest concern is that people are pushed to learn wrongly all about drift in GT5, then will be a lot harder to tandem properly in a midle or longer time:

1 - Many people only start to drift after get bored with the racing and after get enough rich to start to drift with any car he want.
2 - They start to pratice in the Train Solo Drift Mode. Then they learn that more powerfull cars generate larger scores. Also, by drifting in sections most of times, they dont learn nothing about drift lines. The main challenge for beginners is complete a corner without lose control.
3 - Then they start to play in online lobbies. The first frustration is not be able to keep the car inside the track. Then what is the first step? Use a set of tires with more grip.
4 - About tandem? What is tandem for a starter? What do he knows, if when the race starts, what count for them is the first place? Wait or regroup? What is that? They should learn in the very first days is that an drift "race" starts only to catch the replays!

Resuming. For a starter, good drift is fast drift and tandem is unconfortable. So doesn´t matter if they will pick a drift bomb or any annoying awd, transforming a drift session into a death race, they just want to go fast and overtake anyone, no matter how.

right now In my opinion people are more focused on speed instead of other important things like angle. Speed is good up to a point 👍

I think most ppl are done with practicing and now in drift leagues for prvt rooms. I find same thing online it's just people who are whatever or just learning and few rooms available.

I've noticed that the community as a whole has gone from the lower speed stuff and it has just turned into drift racing :( . I used a 500bhp 370z for a long time and felt it was to fast but now everyone is using cars that are above 650bhp. It's quite sad to see as drifting has lost all it's style in gt5 and it has just turned into a race :(

Yup, it's incredibly annoying not being able to use your favourite drift cars because they can't keep up with the freakishly fast cars.

The Rx-7 for example is extremely quick, I used to use it all the time, but it's just boring now... No effort involved in tendering because it could easily catch up mid corner. Which seems to be what everyone else wants to do too...

I wouldn't mind, but even when I use a 300HP car and invite them to follow me, they can't, they either crash into me of run off of the road.

There's always at least 4 Rx-7s or Vipers in every lobby.

Same here, i know the feel. When i started out in march, everybody used PS13 and RX-7-s. Now all i see is people in vipers or corvettes. I joined this site so i could find some real drifters.

I've noticed this from the start of GT5. If people didnt use to drift in FM3, they would try to pass you at every opportunity they get. Even in lobbies where we are trying to tandem, people just pass you on the straights. "Cause you were going so slow man!" Its not all about coming first you know.. Dont even start about when "A Race" is actually started to get some cool replay footage. They almost stop drifting and bolt that car round the track as fast as they can.. No one waits at the finish. Really nice when the laps are set to 1 because i want to so some section drifting..
I've even met people that say im not using the correct tire, that i should use sports or softs.. "Why else do you think you are so slow?"
My reply usually is: "Why else do my tires smoke all the time while yours only start smoking at the exit of the corner..."

I agree with the OP that people who get to know drifting for the first time, especially here on GTP, get the entirly wrong image nowadays..

So for you newcomers:
- No need to pass; just follow and try to match. Come close, but dont hit at all cost.
- Spin youreself out before you crash into someone.
- When drifting together; wait for the other when he (OR SHE) messed up.
- Get out of the viper allready.
- If you can get the same result with less HP; you are more skilled.
- Fast cars can catch up to slow cars; not the other way round. So if your in the fast car; please follow.
- Last but not least: Have Fun!

Ok about the topic of fast cars and passing everyone online. Are you people saying your drifting and someone blows by you driving or drifting past because I personally love huge amounts of power cars as I feel they are way harder to control and you must be more delicate with the throttle etc, but I end up passing people since everyone else is too slow. I am drifting the entire track non stop while there in there rx-7 barely making the drift threw a corner. I have a rx-7 and it's one of my fav drift cars and when I would use it I still pass everyone since there busy spinning out or attempting the same corner a few times. I hate most is when people decide to go backwards and your half way threw the corner and the fool crashes into you.

I kind of got bored with high powered cars so whenever I drift on GT5 now I use my 240sx with 'real life' affordable mods, so updated clutch and flywheel but no carbon propshaft. Standard transmission, fully custom suspension, decat, air filter and mid range turbo.
It all comes to around 280bhp which is a lot more fun trying reverse entries on custom tracks because you have to actually push the car to do what you want.

200Hp or 600Hp; your car has a brake. use it to slow down; that's what it is there for..
When your with friends that need to learn; its better to let them lead. This way they dont have the smoke you are pouring out in their faces and they can actually see the track they want to learn.
The way i see it: you need to go into more skilled lobbies, with people that can drift just as fast as you can.. You wont find me in those lobbies though; i like to take an easy going approach to my dori dori.

Also; how would you learn to tandem with people if your always the lead car, or always blasting past everyone.. There is more skill in the follow car. I think that's when you will start choosing other cars that are slower so you can get close without ramming them off the track..

Thank you so much for saying this ^^ if more people would adhere to that philosophy when drifting, I feel the online experience would be that much more fulfilling..people don't even use ae86 online anymore because they simply can't keep up..I have an rm cappucino and miata that get no use because they have no chance of matching the entry or exit speeds needed to keep up..whatever happened to actually trying to maintain close proximity to others whether leading or following? It just seems that like the other forms of motorsport that drifting claims to be a departure from, its becoming less about making it look good, and more about doing it faster...sad indeed

what I would love too see is slow down all the corvette zr1's and z06's and maybe even the rx7's. If they are too fast don't use them at all.
I like two drift two cars, all the m3's and the 350z. They're too slow to keep up with the cars people mostly use but for people who don't I can have a nice tandem. Together.. we can destroy the use of the vettes but I can't do it, only you can.

(imagine me as marther luther king)
(and yes, it sounds like a speech , ish)

I am an apex perfectionist so I usually use cars under 400 HP for better precision based lines. I have a viper de-tuned to 400HP and it drifts fine with a little tuning. Point being, slow down... Perfect your tandem skills and the skies the limit.

Everyone seems to think that the cars that can produce alot of Hp is a good drift car but its something else that makes the cars fast.
Some just have more grip than others i think its some kind of bug/script problem in the game.
for example Fd rx-7,amuse s2k (the standard one) zr1, ft-86.g35.

s14-a are really slippery even tho you got 50/50 weight and right suspension setup.

Amuse s2k standard car is a wierd one in stock it has 4.5 camber on both rear and front. just turn it down to 2.0 and it has so much grip on c.hards it feels like c.soft.

the powerband it has makes it a real challenge to drift with!

I have to say... i have many cars with 600HP+, but they mostly use slower setups (really soft dampers, for exemple). I like the angle and smoke that it can produce. If possible i dont use even rear wings, because more aero demands more speed to stay drifting the whole circuit.

Also, like the people here are saying over and over, its hard to believe that someone rushing in lower angles can have more fun than a group of drifters having fun and waiting for regroup.

Gor i can't stand UKO's lobbies anymore... they're always crowded with randys :yuck:

Even at Evergreen there is moments where all cars are overpowered. I mostly see UKO using 2 cars: The 370z (B class) or Ferrari California (S Class). Unsavedverynice and BadEtiquette also tends to use those cars.

i use a challenging 450bhp jeff gordan and it's slow as hell but I cant drift the fast cars now im used to a slow car.

This is why I start my own lobby and have a couple of friends join in and we have a lot of fun. We have the occasional public lobby drifter jump in as well, and not once have I seen them use a Viper, or Supercars like Ferrari, Pagani etc etc, the only one I allow is the NSX. I restrict the lobby to CH and if the others don't like it, then they know where to go. My point being, me & my friends have a lot of epic sesh's together, and usually we'll just mess around, tandem but WE always wait to regroup. It might be, because we used to be a bunch for FM3 drifters, I'm not sure but we've always stuck to things like the S-Chassis, BMW's, RX7's, RX8's, MX5's etc. I personally have found that my Chevelle SS with a 4-speed gearbox is rather epic with no weight reduction and 500ish HP. It makes it a bunch of fun to run, and I'm usually quite slow but I prefer angle/line over speed. If any of you'se want to join my lobby just look for it in the public rooms, it's usually called "Will Drift For Fun."

Tell me about it... Sometimes the only way I can get in is by being on the Evergreen chat and at the ready when UKO boots a guy.

Drifting for replays gets REALLY hectic. I'm down to host a EverCLEAN Drift lobby :sly:

pursy, if youre looking for someone to drift with that uses down to earth, varied cars, feel free to add me, i mainly use 250-400 hp jdm cars. my psn is ALGIBRAIC.
