Greetings to you all.
It´s been a long time since I havn´t participated in this forum. There is something I would like to discuss, or rather have an opinion from GT5 or Forza players. I rather have a neutral opinion coming from real car enthusiasts like me, rather than fanatics (fanboys, lets say) from an specific title.
As a car enthusiast, I´m searching for a game that really fulfills my needs. I´ve been a faithful Gran Turismo player since 1998, and been playing GT5 since release date. But now, even after this wonderful update and DLC pack, I still feel quite unsatisfied. Nevertheless, still play GT5 at least 4 hours daily, and I can´t get enough.
I´ve never really played Forza, but one time at some random guy´s house I did play Forza 3. The game doesn´t feel or looks as good as GT5, but it feels comfortable enought to enjoy it at the same level.
Here´s the thing:
I´ve seen the car list of Forza 4 and my jaw was litteraly touching the floor while I did. Even thought there are less cars, the list feels much bigger. The funny thing is that they have the cars that we are asking for in GT5. Turn 10 added those cars almost like if they were mocking PD. Have anyone seen the BMW list? All M3´s! All M5´s(except F10 which is DLC), and that´s just an example. Somehow, the list looks much like the one I posted a year ago, suggesting on how PD should select cars.
As for the image quality of the game, there is no doubt that GT5 is superior. But Forza looks better than any other car game (when not comparing to GT5).
In physics, Forza (at least the one I tried), even without assists, feels like an arcade game. Nevertheless, it feels nice and it´s definitely not broken in it´s physics like NFS. This is a game that lets you enjoy the ride. Never like GT5, but at least, it works.
Sounds. For me, GT5 sounds are underestimated by many. So far GT5 sound effects are the best I´ve heard in any car game(since Prologue acctually), but where it fails its in the sound sample selection. Many cars have an engine sound that does´nt even match the type of engine the car has. Plus, when changing the exhaust, it´s like doing an engine swap. Forza on the other hand, does not have the quality of GT5, but it completly destroys it with sound samples. It seems that Turn 10 has a more knowledgeable personel on the sound capturing deparment. Games like NFS beat GT5 on this aspect as well, but unfortunatly the sounds are so exagerated, and in the case of Shift, they sound broken, distorted and heavily satturated, thus making the experience more of a pain than an enjoyment. Forza sounds are a little exagerated, but it´s better balanced and more descrete than NFS. In this case, I rather have authenticity on the samples than a super fancy 7.1 surround sound. What good is it to have this beautiful high definition sound in GT5, with it´s nicely done doppler effect and all, when your RM Corvette sounds like it has V6 under the hood?
As for replay value, I can´t compare since I havn´t really played Forza more than a few laps. Forza players will need to tell me. But as far as I can see, Forza offeres much more than GT5. If GT5 had an event/prize system like in GT4, I would highly doubt Forza is better. Then again, I don´t really know what Forza has to offer in aspects such as tunning, customization, event progression or prize system. I really doubt there is much that it can be done as far as I can see in vids. Other than putting a nice set of wheels, aero parts and such.
So as a car enthusiast: is it really worth to buy a 360 with Forza 4, while we wait for the next Spec update of GT5, or new DLC? Ir is it a waste of money like NFS, which is a game that at least in my case, after one hour playing Shift 1 and 2, I wanted to give the discs to my dog so he could chew on them. Those titles are a disgrace for the car fandom.
What´s your opinion?
