A.I programmed like B spec Bob?

Hi folks. Im not sure if this has been talked about before and i do apologise if it has.

Ive noticed whilst racing the A.I is behaving just like the cars in B Spec in GT5. Whilst the cars are bunched up together they behave aggressive and usually the lead car(normally the quickest) pulls ahead by quite a margin. As the race goes on his aggression diminishes and as you catch him up hes driving like a nervous wreck and lapping 5 seconds slower or more.
Just to experiment i started following the 3rd or 4th place car closely to see if i could get their aggression up to catch the leader and it works. Once the leader is caught and cars are around him he then begins to build up aggression and speed.
Just wondered what other peoples thoughts are on this? Needless to say the A.I is pretty useless and if this is what its based on i can understand why.

Of course the AI are programmed like Bob. After all he's also a computer so there isn't really any difference other than the little amount of control regarding speeds.

I'm fairly certain that that is not what is happening. They drive prety much the same pace whether cars are nearby or not. The leader waits for you(probably all the cars in front of you do), more and more as the race goes on. Sometimes odd things happen such as the leader not waiting for a lap and then waiting again, or mysteriously giving up 15 seconds in one lap when they normally aren't losing anywhere near that much, but I've never seen any indication that there's anything involved other than their distance from me.

Often times the top 2 or 3 cars will pull away together, but then they will all wait. More often one car will get way in front of a couple others that are also well ahead of the pack, but then he'll slow down as you get close and then they'll all wait if necessary. Once you're in front they generally speed up, but if you can build a lead of several seconds they suddenly gain super speed and will run you down in no time unless your car is just too much faster or they are just too terrible at the track.

If you stay behind a car you will gradually run down the leader with them, but that is just because the leader is well ahead and waiting(or the other car is also faster than the leader) while the other car is not ahead and no longer waiting, rather than because there is another car(you) close to him.

If you get ahead early it is not uncommon for a big line to develop behind you with all but the slowest cars as you keep dragging them forward. These same cars generally don't stay close behind you as you are chasing the leader but can somehow catch up to him at an astonishing rate once you take the lead. If you make a mistake and 5 or 6 cars go past you they'll immediately all start waiting for you again, no matter how hotly they may be trying to fight each other.

So while they take basically the same line as Bob did, they don't think and act the way Bob did. Their wacky behavior might be somewhat rooted in the way Bob changes pace, but what is happening is a perhaps complex but certainly poorly-implemented rubber-banding action(whether it's intended to be more than that or not). It all seems much more similar to the way the AI drove in the FGT championship in GT5(with extra slowdown as you near the finish instead of being the same all race) than the way B-Spec worked. Unless of course everything has changed in the last update.
