Hi Guys. NOT Newbie questions again I hear you cry!

Been watching and reading a while now but just took the plunge and joined.

I've been a GT'er since Adam was a lad (1997 I think it was)and was a regular with the old GranTurismo.com site when GT2 was the bee's knees.

Like all of you I've waited with baited breath for GT5 and only recently plumped up for a PS3 when news came it was out shortly (revied the date I know :grumpy: ). It had to be a 60gb so that I could still use all the old GT's though :dopey: I know :)

Then I bought GT5:P. Boy is it good. Found this site then went and bought a DFGT because my old DF+ (it was bad I remember) was poo-poo'd by most on here and man I'm in heaven.

Completed GT5:P with all gold only standard level though. Then did it with the DFGT.( S-10 was really tough for me with the wheel).

All these GT's and I never really played that much with the manual gearbox. Didnt really like the front buttons on the pad and there was always other races to try. I am thinking of giving it a go with the DFGT, however Ive just found Professional level :nervous: Fun or what?

So my question is complete the game on professional or try to do it with manual gearbox . Dont say both as being an old man of 45 soon I dont think the hand eye is that good anymore. Not knocking anyone else of my age but getting out of a spin now is more of a workout than I can take sometimes :ouch:

Another question and really its a begging one is, is there anywhere to get hold of GT:HD as its the only one from the list of guides that Ive never played.

Well thanks in advance and keep up the great advice its definatly helped me enjoy the game to (almost) its fullest. If you look theres always something else to try in it, except maybe for you superstars out there. Mind you...........

You'll get used to the manual gearbox faster than you'd imagine. GT5P is my first GT. I started out on the wheel cause I'm older than you I've never been a gamer and I can't use that darn control pad for anything. It makes my hands hurt. But I digest... (yes that's a joke...)

I started with auto trans and std physics and it didn't take me long to figure out that the auto trans didn't always select the right gear so I switched to manual and in less than an hour I was shifting gears without thinking about it. My transition to pro physics hasn't been quite so effortless. lol I still haven't gotten pro gold in the mission races and all the TTs. But I did gold S7 and S10 pro and I consider that an accomplishment.

So I'd say go manual trans. In an hour you'll be so good at it you will be looking for the next challenge. Pro physics anyone... lol

I would definitely go with the Manual Transmission, as it will add a whole new dimension to the game. I completed GT5P with the DFGT, and then decided to buy the Logitech G-25, with the H-Pattern shifter, which made the game even more enjoyable. If you dont mind spending 150 bucks, go pick up a G-25, it will make the game so much more enjoyable, not to mention realistic.

I liked the look of the G-25 and was really trying to get one at a decent price (around£170, OOS everywhere Christmas time though) but I decided I couldn't wait. The DFGT is a very good wheel though, only problem the gear stick is on the wrong side for me but I'll try that first. Then pro physics I think.

By the time GT5's released I should be OK on both.

Thanks everyone.

Now does anyone have any idea where I can get that GT:HD ?

I git the DFGT for christmas and haven't looked back since.... well except for the odd Drift session(still haven't mastered the wheel for that yet) I've never been a manual fan on the joypads for some reason but the DFGT has moved me on in that respect. I prefer the paddles on the wheel to the stick for obvious UK reasons... so i can say for sure yu should give it a blast, Pro Manual No ASM etc etc... 👍

"Don't forget to look for the gear hint flashing red either.... lol"

Have been having a go at the Pro and Manual together over the weekend. As s2k2k3 said you can get used to the manual quite quickly with the DFGT. So much more easy than the pad.

I can win or get second for all of the C and B licence rounds. The A I can get in the top 2 for most of them all but the S is a different beast. Some arn't so bad but the 700 and 750's are tough. Ive managed 3rd in both 700's and 3rd at Fuji (Amuse S2000) but the 750 at Suzuka then top 5 is tough. I'll persevere though.

One thing I'm finding though is that I've got to be much more selective in the cars I choose. Ford GT is a very tough drive for me now as is my favorite car the tuned versions of the 2 Lotus'. Must learn to feather the throttle better I'm thinking.

The Ford GT and all other MR cars require precise throttle control to keep the car balanced between oversteer and understeer.
