This thread is for people to ask questions about nearly anything they want that they are strugling to find answers for. (keep it clean and on topic though please)

Then hopefully the brains of the forum (Famine?, ect) Can help is find the answer.

My question is.
In normal life we are pressed in by the air above us, I can't remember the exact figure of the weight, but its weight pressing down on us is quite large (in the tonnes), and the book said that we were used to this weight pressing down on our bodies. However when we get into a car or go inside we are not suddenly feeling alot lighter because the building or car would be taking the airs weight off us. Why is this??

Because unless that container is air-tight - and then, once you are sealed inside, all the air is pumped out - then that car is equalized to the same atmospheric pressure as the ambient air, much like water flows to the same level everywhere it can reach.

Atmospheric pressure at sea level tends to be in the range of about 14 pounds per square inch, give or take.

Also, while I am not going to close this thread, these compendium-style threads do not seem to work out very well. If they don't die on the vine, then they tend to be hard to search for a specific answer.

Thanks duke. That makes sense, so the sir isn't only pressing down on us it is pressing on us from all around. Cool beans :)

We had Ask GTPlanet as a sub thread and a topic. But some members answers got too long and some questions were forgotten.

Yeah I remember that. I just found out about it and started reading it then it got removed :( .

I just thought this would be a good idea for a thread like this so all questions went into this thread instead of lots of other threads.
