Mods, please move where appropriate.

I have a pretty basic question. I have an '89 Mustang and a 65 F-100. I am looking to swap the rear end of the F-100 for the rear end of the Mustang. Is this possible?

[And before anyone asks, yes, I did try to look it up by way of Google.]

Anything is possible, it's just how much trouble you're willing to go through. First thing to do is to check the dimensions of both axles. If it's far wider or narrower it most likely is a no go.

You're going from a coil suspension to a leaf suspension. That's a bit of work. The yoke on the diff probably needs to be swapped.

Most work will probably come from welding the mounting points in the correct place.

Let me do some digging. I helped out with an 8.8" swap into a 95 S10. We used one out of a 5.0l Explorer since the wheel track is really close.

EDIT: Sorry it took awhile. I was at work and had to stay later than planned. From what I have read in this article the Explorer 8.8 looks like your easiest option

Another option is here.

They are debating the Crown Victoria 8.8 vs the Explorer 8.8. An interesting read.

The narrower Mustang 8.8 would be an interesting choice if you need clearance for wide tires. Just keep in mind you will have to do a lot of fabrication work to get it ready for your truck.

Whichever way you go it sounds like an interesting project.
