A reformatting of used cars

I believe that the used car dealers need to be reformatted. They, like most of the game, are too biased towards Japan. Even the "historic" cars are mostly early eighties. How about dividing it into vintage (pre-1920), classic (1920-39), postwar (1940-59), retro (1960-79), recent (1980-99), and modern (2000-present). Each era would have four different regions: North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Either that, or give every major manufacturer its own used car dealership.

The Japanese-centric nature of the used car lists is a reflection of the bias towards Japanese cars throughout the entire game. Ditto for the focus on the last 25 years. Besides that, in the real world it's equally rare to find anything before 1950 showing up in a used car lot.

As for reformatting the used car lots, I think it would work just fine to have one lot with all the same controls for organization that the give you in your home garage.

I like the GT4 used-car layout: It's not too lengthy, if you're hunting a particular car, you can tell where to look rather than scrolling all the way thorough 50 cars (if all three lots were combined). I don't think we're going to see that many pre-1950's cars in future versions, as they are not going to be all that fun to drive compared to today's cars. Besides, the manufacturers are also looking to sell cars in real-life, so I won't expect too much continued focus on brands and models that don't exist anymore. That said, I'm surprised that a lot of "dead" brands made it into GT4.

On a tangent, I wish there was a trip odometer/mileage (re-)counter that you could "reset" the mileage so you know how long you've used a particular used car. Unless I write it down, I want to know how many miles I've driven the car for.

I think the dealerships having thier own used lot is a great idea. Taking the idea one step further - how about a "car search". Say I wanted a particular car from a particular year I'd go to the corresponding dealer pick the vehicle from a list of cars that are " Not Availble Yet" and when the car comes in I'm somehow notified. It's like going to a high end dealer and saying to the salesman - "Find me this car"

GT1 and GT2 both had it so the manufacturers had thier own used car garages to look through, tbh though I prefer it in GT4 you get better variety. Though I don't think theres enough used cars really, theres too few cars to discover that make you go wow. Mind you, there wasn't many in GT1 or 2 either and it's not a huge problem.

How about this?

NEW: 2000-present (latest models)
PREOWNED: 2000-present (older models)
USED: 1980-99
CLASSIC: 1940-79
VINTAGE: prewar

New would be just like a regular dealership, with the latest models from every manufacturer that has existed since 2000. Preowned would be a used car dealership featuring only 2000-present cars. Used would be 80s-90s cars, including Eagle and Geo. Classic would be like a showroom dealership, featuring postwar classics. Vintage would be like the true collectibles, prewar cars at high prices.
