I think that this might be a simple idea that could solve a lot of problems with group assignments and requests from players.

My idea is that as well as choosing which car you race yourself you can also choose which cars you race against. That is it - simple.

That provide multi-class racing if you want it

It will allow you to define your 'Group'

If you have duplicates then you can livery them differently and have multiple of the same car in a race e.g. two AMG GT3 Mercs, one can be number 5 and the other 6 in Black Falcon liveries.

You can build complete grids of historic races (car model permitting)

I think this would be quite easy to program into the game.

Thoughts?

As nobody answered to you, I'll write something.

I hope I understood what you're suggested. It sounds more or less like lobby racing. There you can for sure define which cars are allowed. Multi class racing can be organized also, you can do many variations.
But if you want this automaticly be done by the system, similair to sports mode, then I guess there are not enough players to fullfill each players requests permanently.

And, most important, it would not match with the DR& SR system.

Besides, even with bop the races are barely fair, different powered cars would create a mess on the track.

But its not a bad idea at all, would for sure be interesting if it would've been possible

I was more thinking of Custom Races which I play quite a lot offline for practice. It would be nice to have a Le Mans Grid of the Le Mans Protoypes I choose and the GT3 cars that I choose. As Le Mans will often have 10 Porsche GT3, say, then it would be great if I had 10 Porsche GT3 in my garage (from duplicates in the daily lottery and from buying extra ones) then I can livery them with different liveries from a single Le Mans year. So, in effect, I can build up a Le Mans grid that fairly closely resembles the real thing. The GT3 cars will then add some extra interest to longer races as the LMP cars lap them.

There is a Custom race thread, but I definitely feel a program should have been written, for AI to use our Garage cars. Also for us to assign cars for the AI.

In GT League, some races have AI with different liveries, but this doesn't happen for Custom Races. In Project Cars 2, Ian Bell mentioned they couldn't program Livery Editor as it would eat up too much power to render each car for a race.

That game has all the bells and whistels(change of weather, time of day and Live Track, where the track surface changes each time you race). I wonder if this is a problem PD have faced as well, with their focus on graphics.

I asked Ian Bell if we were going to be getting a custom race / custom championship grid selection system in PC2 like what Assetto Corsa has. His response was basically “lol buy the next game”.

What makes you think Kaz will listen any better?

Also why can Kunos, a tiny studio with barely any manpower, do what three other much larger development studios have been unable to achieve? It’s not like adding a feature like this is rocket science either.

Oh, I indeed did misunderstand you. I thought you were talking about online racing.

Yes, of course any possibility to create a custom race more individual would be better :)
