Question: Do I have to sit and race for the entire 24 Hour Le Mans race?

Short Answer: No. But you can if you want to. 👍

Long Answer:

If you are like me and not a fan of really any Endurance Races (or just the 24 Hour ones), here are some race notes I gathered up after finishing the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in A-Spec. Take it as an estimated guide as what to expect. I was driving 'dirty' just to get the fastest lap times I could. The more laps I complete at the beginning, the less I'll have to drive in the end :):

Le Mans 24 Hour Race Notes

Red Bull X2010, with Oil Change

Sunny Weather

Racing Soft Tires

Skid Recovery - On

Active Steering - Mild

My Lap Times -

3600 Seconds In one Hour

150 Seconds Per Lap (2:15 to 2:20, fastest lap of 2:10.4xx. I messed up an embarrassing number of laps that landed me many 2:30+ lap times)

28 Laps Per Hour Without Pit Stops (Or so I would estimate???)

20 Laps Per Hour With Pit Stops (depending on how often you mess up)

8 Laps Per Pit Stop

3 Pit Stops Per Hour (Every 20 Minutes)

240 Seconds (4 Minutes) Pit Stop Lap Time (12 Minutes Per Hour)

Hourly Schedule -

8 Laps - 20 min

Pit - 5 min

8 Laps - 20 min

Pit - 5 min

4 Laps

Equals 20 Laps Per Hour at least (Near the end I found I was doing more laps per hour, maybe 23 to 24 since I started driving 'dirty' to get better fast lap times, i.e. Pitted after 17 minutes or so instead of 20 and ended with 6 laps to finish the hour instead of four, etc.)

Total Of 480 Laps Over 24 Hours

Run 16 Hours (16 Hours * 24 Laps = 384 Laps)

Park The Car For 7 Hours With at least a 105 Lap Lead Or So (See AI Lap Schedule Below)

Run The Last Hour To Stay Ahead Of The AI, 390 Laps Should About Do It, But Check Your Math Early On)

24/390 = 17ish Total Hours Of 'Driving' :)

AI Lap Time -

AI Run 17 Laps Per Hour

AI Will Do 385ish Laps

AI Lap Time - 3:30

AI Pit After 11 Laps

Note that your times may need to be re-calculated based on how many laps the AI does per hour, so take note the first couple hours and adjust as needed to be sure.

A Spec Le Mans XP Points: 4.593,700

Hope this helps someone. I basically did about 3 hours after work a night and some on the weekend to complete it. Let me know if you have any questions and post your experiences here too. Anyone complete it in the rain?

I did the 24 Lemans mostly in rain. It rained for about 18 hours of the race. Fastest AI laps in 4:05 ish, You can lap in 2:20~2:30 when it's raining with wet medium tyres So is best to race during rain, so "parking hours" become 8 or even 9. Though I pitted in every 7 laps, fuel wouldn't last an 8th lap. Did 375 laps, they did like 10 less.

How many xp did you get for the race? And nice guide by the way :)

I got just under 4.6 Million XP Points, something like 4,572,xxx IIRC Thanks for looking it up ussr. It's probably listed in the Required XP Level Thread somewhere 👍

That is just stupid 👎 it's easier to invite 3 friends and let them drive for five hours each, you can always try to amuse yourself by trying beat each-others lap records.

The main problem with DeLaSathre is that on this track X1 is jumping on the track like bunny the rabbit, it's suspension is not setup for this track.

And the lap time of 2:10:4xx is with deep cutting chicanes and hard corners so without those cuts lap times are in 2:11:999 / 2:12:000

A Spec DeLaSatrhre 4.593,700
B Spec DeLaSatrhre 2.241,184

A Spec Nurburgring 7.538,812
B Spec Nurburgring 3.700,822

But you don't really get those points because as soon as you get to level 40 to unlock last 24 h race then your XP number stops at 7.576,732

Tell me how you really feel. Well, I would imagine that most people's friends won't want to play the game for 5 hours in a car that they've never driven before and wouldn't begin to know how to drive. So for the rest of us I made the guide. But thanks for clarifying the XP Points 👍

Great work Jerome 👍

I was mentally figuring out just how few laps I'd need to run to complete the race... primarily to see if I could just park the car up during darkness.

Good stuff, :) thanks for taking the time to do it. It certainly will be a big help when I attempt it. 👍

yeah, I like the parking part. can get some sleep. where do you park your car?
Can it be park at the entrance of the pit lane? So can block the AI from pit stop.

Yea I parked the car for 7 hours on a friday night, woke up early on saturday to finish it and save.

As for parking the car, I actually found the high rumble strips on the right side before the first chicane was good for 'high-centering' the car perpendicular to the rumble strip so that it wouldn't move and when I came back I could easily begin racing again. I never tried blocking the AI as they would probably just bump me in and I'd have to pit again anyway.

Good info here. I am level 34 and am going to make a go at this race soon. Thank you!

Doing the suzuka 172 laps now, driving in the rain is so annoying :yuck:

Found this via searching and just wanted to thank Jerome for the guide. Now we have no SEs and I am at home sick for a couple of days, I am considering giving this a try.

As 1.06 gives so much more XP, the weather outside was awful, I have a quiet weekend....yesterday I decided to finally give the 24Hr LM a go. Much as I would love to do this race properly, the lack of an in-race save and having a life means I too am looking at the shortest route.

Two important things to add to Jerome's guide:

- the AI goes a LOT slower in the rain, the AI total lap count will be in the region of 280-300 laps if it rains constantly.
- using PD's all weather RS tyre you can still easily and consistently lap sub 2.30 whatever the weather.

I have calculated that you may be able to reduce the 24hr LM to a 13-14 hour 'sprint' and 10-11 hours parking.... that does not seem anywhere near as bad now does it ? This requires constant rain and of course there is no guarantee that it will rain throughout the race, make sure you check your race regularly when parked up, duh!

My race finishes at 11:30pm tonight, after 12 hours I have a lead of 100 laps (ie 7 hours in current conditions), it started sunny but after a couple of hours it started raining and has rained ever since (I am hoping it continues). For info, I have been running 4 hour stints and then pausing. Now I am parked up and the clock is running and I will just run extra laps, as required, during the course of the day. Once it finishes I will report the new XP total.

It would be cool if you could run the first hour or so and then create a giant pile up at the pit so no one could continue.

I just tried to park the car at the pit entrance sideways with handbrake on, but the AI car smashed through it easily. :grumpy:

What can you say about the last laps of the race regarding the cars handling??

I remember wanting to finish the 24H of Le Mans in my GT4 so I took control of the last lap of my R92CP and it was pretty much incontrollable given that the chassis was pretty warped from the whole race...

How does that compare in GT5??

Thanks!

/\ I didn't have any issues with controlling the X2010 in the race, granted I didn't do the full 24 hours, but the chassis was never an issue and I'd put almost 80K miles on it before that race IIRC. And believe me, there were times when I seriously wiped out and had reason for the chassis to bend and such, good luck!

I'm going to finish tonight in about 90 minutes. I'm parked right now using a Peugeot LM car. I'm sitting at 375 laps. I couldn't use the X1 car. It's too difficult to drive. I prefer a very well setup LM car to the X1 any day. I guess I have to be around at the end to cross the finish line after the 24 hour mark or will I automatically win when every other car finishes after 24 hours and they have less laps than me?
