First some explanations - ever since I've started playing GT5:P I've been confused as I never saw tires lock up while braking (by saying lock up I mean stop spinning). Note that I always set ABS to 0. Today I did some tests. First I took my Ferrari 430 to the Fuji racetrack, set both front and rear brake bias to 10 (to maximise braking power and the chances of lock up) and ABS to 0, and equipped N1 tires(to minimise grip), all assists off, pro physics. Then I accelerated to about 120 kph on one of the straight parts and slammed on the brakes until I came to a complete stop. Then I watched the replay, and as expected saw no lock up. Then I tried the exact same thing with the Alfa Romeo 147 on Daytona with the same results. My conclusion-ABS set to 0 doesn't turn it off, it's just a minimum setting. Likewise setting front or rear brake bias to 0 doesn't turn the brakes off, although setting traction control to 0 does turn it off. Any opinions people? P.S. I'm using a Sixaxis and spec II version of the game.

Well youve managed to get some very different results to me in that case, as I've tested ABS set to 0 and it most certainly did lock the brakes up (clearly visible on the replay and a longer braking distance as well).

In fact one of the most clear tests of this is to set ABS to 0 and the brake bias to front 0 and rear 10 and braking hard from high speed. A loss of control will occur if you even breath on the steering wheel and stopping distances will be much greater than normal (if you manage to keep facing the right way).

If certain a thread about this already exists, I will see if I can find it.

Strange... You mean you lock up your wheels while braking in a straight line?? Because I only get lock up if I turn wheel (analogue stick) left and right aggressively, like if I want to make the car spin out. Is it possible that they've added that feature in an update, mind is a BD PAL Spec II version.

ABS adjustment was added with Spec II and has worked in the same way since then (so 0 = off).

Prior to spec II ABS was not available for adjustment.

So we have been able to lock up tyres since Spec II (March 2008).

Yes but there was a mid-spec II update (2.something) as I recall which changed the physics a bit, maybe they added it then?

Nah, I remember doing some brake testing way in the beginning. Turning ABS off definitely worked back then. Smoke everywhere. ;)

Just did another test. Took the Suzuki Cappucino to the High Speed Ring, again all aids off, ABS=0, brake balance first 10-10, then 1-10, as Scaff suggested. Started braking just after the START sign, no steering input. Again no lock up on the replay and certainly no smoke. I'm confused...

Just update you're version to SPEC III
I think SPEC II did not had lock up after some patch.

I can't update since the internet's too slow here, didn't even bother connecting the console. Maybe I'll buy a Blu-Ray Spec III disc with a DFGT, I'm sick of driving with a controller. Are you sure lock up wasn't there after an update and not before it?

Since the Spec II (March '08) update this the result of ABS set to 0....

....anything before Spec II will not do it.

I've done this test with every version of the physics since Spec II (lots of brake tests) and I can't recall any of they differing (mixture of DS3 and wheel as well).

Yes but mine is a Spec II version, the older versions don't have ABS adjustment in the first place right? I've done 3 tests in the last 3 hours, all with different cars but with the same results. I've smoked a whole pack since I started the thread, and I still don't get it

HAHA yeah true, it gieves you option to set it to 0 LOL so it should be brake lock.
Hmm do you play on PRO mode? Make sure the red bar that shows brake pressure is all way up..

And yeah UPDATE!

Yep, pro mode (otherwise I'd stick with GT4), and yes, I do keep an eye on the red bar, and no, I can't update. There's no internet, right now I'm connected via my mobile phone.

I get lock up even when my brakes aren't all the way maxed out in level. I've been at 6 and 4 on the F430 on Fuji and still had them lock up on the back straight.

Just tried Ford GT on HSR, again pro physics, no aids, abs set to 0, brake force 10-10, N1 tires. Started braking right after the start in a straight line, didn't even touch the steering. Did 3 tries with the same result - no lock up, the tires just kept on spinning as if though abs was on.

I have no idea what to suggest other than updating as soon as you can (and I know that's an issue for you at the moment), as this appears to be something that is only effecting you.

As long as the set-up of the car is how you describe you should start getting lock up when you are down below 60mph or so and that should continue all teh way to standstill (as the youtube clip I posted earlier shows).

Strange one this, but certainly not the norm.

You have to use the ABS setting in the "quick tune" menu not the pre-race/race-settings menu. ABS is still set to 1 in the quick tune menu even when you have it set to complete 0 in the race settings menu. At least that's how I think I remember it from Spec II... it's different now.

Sorry but I checked that, it's set to 0. I often use quick tune to set abs to 0 and 1 without quitting the race but failed to see any difference every time.
By the way thanks for the input everyone, although I still don't understand why PD made a different copy of the game specially for me, I appreciate your efforts to help me.
