Accessing W2K

Okay, my last question was too easy....how about this...

how do i get access to a W2K system once you have forgotten the admin username & password?

obviously i cannot log on but i just need to start W2K without logging on..

i am not talking about a startup disk to access the hard drive..

cheers

You can't. You must log in to W2K. If you really need to start W2K on the machine, you're going to have to boot it off the W2K CD (or startup disk), and opt to "repair" the SAM database (Security Accounts Manager). This will delete all the user accounts and reset the admin password to blank.

This fairly significant security hole explains why the Boot Order in the BIOS is critical...

PS: That one was too easy too! :P :)

Dang.. You beat me to it Giles :D (as an excuse I WAS in our Saxo which, unfortunately, does not have internet access :banghead: )

ahh....this is a piece of piss to the experts....

i'll try and delete the user accounts with the boot disk as you suggested...

cheers folks...

now for a really hard question.....how do i explain to my wife when i told her that i wouldnt drink watching the celtic game yesterday but still came home drunk?

Even easier :D

  • You fell in because they won and you had to celebrate.
  • A long lost buddy of yours showed up at the bar in need of shoulder since his wife left him.
  • You had to drown your Sorrow since since Celtic lost

Edit: is in Bold Italic
