Actual bug or just wrong information?

I joined a lobby to practise for the upcoming FIA Nations Cup race at Nurb GP. There was a race in progress so while I was hanging around I checked out the competition (not something I ever bother doing). I noticed my ABS was set to weak. Barring a short period last year I've always had it at default. I checked my settings and it was set to default but I switched to off and then back to default and, when I checked the player list again, it had changed to default. Once I got out on track I noticed I wasn't losing control of the car so much (Gr3 is my nemesis; I struggle to put 3 laps together without crashing). To my surprise I completed the 12? laps without a major incident. I was only slightly quicker (.200) than my earlier time trial time but I was consistently hitting similar times. I'm too big a variable (bad days are significantly worse than good days, I rarely race Gr3 so progression is inevitable with practise) to accurately judge if the ABS thing has played some part. Has anyone else noticed something like this?

Default ABS blows Weak ABS out of the water in every conceivable way, so yeah, that'll do it. :)
How? By in-game description weak would let you trail brake if you wanted to while default devotes all tire grip to braking.

Then I'll switch it back lol. A lot of people in the higher SNAIL divisions use Weak and I assumed based on the description it would provide better braking

If you were noticeably more consistent suddenly, its without a shadow of a doubt Default.
I was more consistent in the lobby compared to time trial in the nations cup practise bit in sport mode. There I only have my settings to tell me I was using default. My question is, is it possible my ABS is set to weak in Sport even though my settings say it's default?

Honestly, you seem to be extremely unsure yourself, you probably just drove better and are now searching for a reason why, when in reality you might've just had an awesome run ;)

For sure. That's kinda the point to the thread. I didn't get a chance to check in the lobby because I noticed the discrepancy before I got on track.

Yeah, theres only so much we can answer for you without seeing what happened physically, but the 2 things I'd take away from this are:

  1. Default ABS is always better than Weak ABS, so that might be it.
  2. Its totally possible to go out there and crush it at anytime, even if you aren't feeling confident, so that might be it too. :)

It's exactly like I explained it. The lobby list said I'm using weak, my settings said I'm using default. I switched mine to off, then back to default, and it changed to default on the lobby list. If I didn't change it would I have been using weak or default? It was surprising that I was suddenly able to consistently do times similar to my best when I couldn't before. Admittedly there are many reasons why this could happen. In the last manufacturers race I qualified 3rd (about .700 off my best practice time) and then proceeded to spin out 4 times under no pressure in the race. I put it down to not knowing Gr3 well enough but is it possible that I was running weak ABS even though my settings said default?

Why don’t you test it? Do some laps in a familiar car/track with Weak, then Default and you will know which one feels similar and has similar times to what you were doing before.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow, but I suspect if it were something that only happened sometimes/with Gr3/with certain cars I would have just blamed myself/the group/the car. My own deficiency is probably the biggest variable.

ABS Weak has a unique feeling, it feels far off from Defualt, and if it were to change without you knowing, you should be able to pick up on it quite easily. You will know what I am talking about if you do some laps with ABS Weak and try to replicate the braking of Default.

Tbh, I didn't notice that much when I did give weak a shot. My best lap times didn't suffer at all, only my ability to consistently hit them. Honestly I'm a total noob when it comes to sim racing. If DC VR didn't convince me to buy a wheel I doubt I'd have ever given them a shot. I still struggle to notice obvious things that the game is trying to tell me.

Basically Default will never lock the wheels under braking, whereas Weak will. Honestly I highly doubt it’s a bug, even with the smaller bugs there’s always many people who notice.

Yep it's likely just the wrong info displayed on screen (like the loss of h/p for cars driven over X kms, which PD said was just cosmetic). I'll test some Gr3 cars tomorrow since they're the only cars giving me trouble and this situation came to light while I was driving one.
