Preview of the simulator. The DARPA ACTUV program is developing a fundamentally new tool for the Navys ASW toolkit. Before we can develop the autonomous software that will run on ACTUVs computers, we need to understand what approaches and methods are the most effective. We have made arrangements for ACTUV to be integrated into the Sonalysts Combat Simulations Dangerous WatersTM game, and were offering this new ACTUV Tactics Simulator here for free public download and this is where you can play an import role!
You are invited to put yourself into the virtual drivers seat of one of several ACTUV configurations and show the world how you can use its capabilities to follow a submarine. Of course you wont be the only ship at sea so youll have to safely navigate among the commercial traffic, and the target sub has some tricks up his sleeve so watch out! Rack up points as you complete the mission objectives, and see how you stack up against the competition on our leaderboard page. You can also share your experiences and insights from playing the simulator with others at SUBSIM ACTUV forum.

Preview of the simulator. As you complete each scenario in the simulation you will be asked if you would like to submit data about your game play to our database for analysis. The data collected doesnt contain any information about you or your computer, or anything else outside of what you did with ACTUV and how well it worked. Good or bad, please agree to submit your data for analysis so that we can see what tactics work (or dont work!). And you can always say no- installing and playing the simulation does not collect or send any information until you expressly agree to it at the end of each scenario.
And now a note from our lawyers The ACTUV Tactics Simulator is being offered for free public download. While we have made efforts to leverage existing commercial software and ensure its full operability and security, DARPA makes no warranties about the operability of the software on your particular system and is not responsible for any damages that might occur. Play of the ACTUV Tactics Simulator is voluntary, and DARPA makes no commitment of funding or other compensation for time spent playing the simulation, regardless of whether data is submitted for analysis or not. Data collected contains no personally identifiable information and will be used for research purposes to assess optimal ACTUV strategies.
