Man, that's a shame. I grew up with West's Batman. And I'm still growing up with him as Major of Quahog.

What am I going to do without Batman! :(

I saw lots of repeats of the 60's series as a kid and have fond memories of it and West's portrayal of the character. I have also seen (or rather heard) him a ton in Family Guy, amazing how he managed to find an entirely new generation of fans through it.

RIP.

I became a fan after seeing him in this(start around 11:30):

I enjoyed his work in Family Guy, too. Rest in peace, he will be missed.

I loved the original Batman. Watched every episode numerous times in reruns in my younger years. R.I.P. Mr. West.

...To be perfectly honest, I've never been the fan of 60s Batman TV show. Too goofy for my taste even as a young un.

But I did enjoy the film he made back in the 2000s - the name escapes me for the moment - where he played himself and Bruce Wayne/Batman. The convulted plot revolved around the TV show's villains and whatnots and I can't quite recall all the hammy details but I do remember it being quite funny and self-aware of itself.

Well, Mr. West, thank you for all your hard work. Rest well now, sir.

Kinda surprised to see only a few replies to this, West left a strong influence on pop-culture IMO, what with all his POW!, BLAP! and whatever ones I'm forgetting from the old show. Good to know he went peacefully though, he'll be missed - but not forgotten.

Compared to the comics and the recent movies, the original TV series, when looking back at it, was highly camp (and pretty poorly made to be fair). But Adam West still managed to play it straight, if a touch tongue-in-cheek, and keep the show from becoming a farcical parody.

No one else could pull off that underwear over tights look quite like he could. RIP Mayor West :(

I'm sorry to hear about West's passing; like Lynda Carter he appears to have made a decent post-career out of ironizing the campy past.

I always thought Lewis G Wilson was the original Batman though.
