Hi so I have gotten way into this whole sim racing world and I am having a great time so far, but I am looking to make for a more immersive experience.
I know adding motion (actuators? is it?) is probably what I am looking for but when I think of motion+ cockpit (I think) = very very expensive. But is it really??? I have no idea that is why I am asking. Are there any fairly inexpensive ways to add motion to your cockpit??

Could someone point me in the direction of some good kits to add motion.

Also would motion work with a ps3 or xbox? or just PC???
And would I need a new rig?? or would my Obutto work just fine?
Some input would be much appreciated.

Not a great deal of detail on how, but it does show it can be done as DIY

I somehow doubt that you can get motion from a console OS........not yet anyway.
All the signals to drive the actuators, have to be accessed and there is no way of doing that on a PS.
A PC is easier(not that I have a clue) to do this, as all the codes can be modded.

Inexpensive? What is your idea of an inexpensive motion platform/chair? But I think you're going to have to spend more money then you would like to on a setup like that. The best and easist way is buying one directly from FREX ==> SimConMotion. Don't forget, these motion platforms/seats are only 2DOF's.

This and This are also nice motion seats. Mind you, the Simbol is only 2DOF but is compatible with the x-sim² (x-simulator.de) software.

Using the x-sim² software, you could try to make a motion seat with actuators but it is also possible to make a motion seat with motors, hydraulic things and even with windshield wiper motors (from a car). But if you don't have the skills to do so, by all means, buy one instead of getting all stressed up and frustrated trying to make one of your own.

Nope it won't work on a console, only on PC.

Although that video hides it with the audio for me the sound those actuators make (seen in other videos) is way too noisey.

Motion would be nice yet I also imagine you could get quick sick of it.
Fine line between immersion/realisim and fun/comfort.

This is the cheapest route you can go with motion and even this is pretty expensive at $3,000+ US

No it's not.
Frex SimConMotion is cheaper.

There are some threads here about it. I myself started one too. And also posted a bit at x-sim. A quick search would lead to much...
You know google ? ;) kidding

to sum i up.

Motion sim for console = not available
Motion sim for PC = as told above, yes for at least 2400 + all the equipement needed

I hope that with the release of GT5, a motion sim comes out for consoles. It's been rumored in some forums till now.

every attempt to do it on your own is not recommended (if you are not dispose of all the skills, electronics, contructions, DIY,....)

D-box said that they contacted KY (PD) to see if it's possible to make GT5 compatible with the D-box.

  • Quite right

Some recent EA games worked with D-Box
Dirt 2 also was showcased working with D-Box

Not enough games to support it and the cost is far from making it attractive.

This is the rumor i heard, so i m so eager to get any news on this. Probably wait and see...

@Raitziger : Motion for console is also possible if someone made use of the FFB info sent between console and wheel.

It's not the worst way to go but you would need to be a very skilled mecatronic enginneer or something because you need to differentate between all the different inputs to the ffb, analyse to see from what action it comes, and than program the corralation in a chip.

he is the only one bringing up a motion sim for ps3, but it looks too sick, like it could kill you (best simulation probably ;))

Here is the thread from x-sim where they tried a motion sim for ps3. Add your ideas so maybe with a good idea and the help of those techsavy people over there, there could be something created.

Nope it's not a rumour. An employe of D-box mentioned this on the first RSC forum. And it use to be on their website.

So i bring this old thread once up again because I found something rather interesting, which could also be of interest to Stega:

http://vrx.ca/index.php

look at the logos on the right : GT5P !!!! :dunce::dunce::dunce::dunce:

and ps3 xbox and wii (boff mario kart:sly:) compatible.

They are based on the motion code of the d-box.

What do you guys think about it???

I would be interested in the base without seat, wheel , 5.1,.... because let's face it, it's a whole lot of a bucket full of money:crazy:

I believe the VRX setup works with consoles but NOT the i-motion.

VRX (non motion) was the cockpit product first used to showcase FM2 and triple screen setup.
