Hi all, i'm just getting to my first nurburgring 24 hours. :ill: would anybody be willing to offer up any advice as to what car to bring for a competitive (but not hair-pullingly stressful) race? I intend to race it entirely in a-spec.

Thanks in advance, any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

It really can come down to what line-up you choose as to how easy a race can be.

Check out some of the posts in this search to help with some more info.

One way you can make it more interesting is if you are getting a bit too far infront during the race, pull off to the side of the road and enjoy some scenery for a while, then start concentrating again.

Good Luck
OA

P.S. When actually racing the event, take regular breaks. It can help with your concentration.
All you have to do is pause during the race, get up walk around / toilet break / even sleep :)

Nice recomendations ...

I reccomend the 320i Touring Car. I used it myself. The car handles nice and forgives quite a bit. The race was quite tough for me from the beginning. It took quite a few laps to get one lap advantage on 2nd placed car (TT-R) but after that it seemed like he gave up trying and it was a much reasonable race :).

Good luck and take seriously warnings about regular breaks and relaxing moments. It is a very tough race to do.

I did the Ring 24 hr using the Ford GT LM SpecIII Race Car (the one in the opening movie of the game). If you want a stress-free race, that's the car to do it. It's a 1 million prize race and you get the Formula GT car. After that, try the Formula GT race series. It's a 3 million prize series.

Welcome aboard jrj6591

Any of the cars on Open Addict's list would do the trick. You can always add a little horsepower to them if its needed.

As an alternative (and slightly faster cars) you could consider one of the German Touring Cars:

Audi A4 Touring Car '04
Audi Abt TT-R Touring Car '02
Mercedes CLK Touring Car '00
Opel Astra Touring Car '00

The upside to using one of these DTM cars is that they are all quite familiar with the track so if you fall asleep, they will keep right on driving!

Its quite likely that you will see me on the 'Ring during your race. All I ask is that when you pass me, you do so on the left.

One more thing: Make sure that you first do a test drive in whatever car you pick, and test the transmission gearing. Make sure that the gearing is properly set for the track. The last thing you want to happen is to find that for 24 hours, your gearing is either too tall or too short, and you don't want to re-start the race to fix it. I would also make sure that you have two grades of tires available (like R1's and R2's) to give you some variety during your pit stops.

Enjoy the racing!

Two words: Red Bull. Or, if you don't want to pay Sebastian Vettel or Mark Webber's wages, Rockstar Energy Drink or Monster Energy drink. But both taste like crap. So I'd recommend Red Bull Cola - they do have that, right?

Really? I'm more of a monster fan personally, although i suppose i can convert for that cause, though ha.

Anyway, thanks to all for the reception and the help. I've decided to go ahead and run with the Toyota Superautobacs Apex MR-S in a 154 a-spec pt. race, which should be competitive but still winnable for me. Thanks again for all the input, I'll go ahead and throw the results up here once i'm finally finished!

Red devil is my personal favourite. Drunk 5 cans before arive and drive karting with a mate and I couldn't stop my leg twitching.

There is also another one that I drink quite a bit of. don't know the name but it retails for 35p a can. :)

Good luck for there race.

Well, i've finally come across the finish line, thankfully in first place. That was an incredibly exhausting race, but i'm proud to have finished it all behind the drivers wheel.

I managed to gather 154 a-spec points in the process, beating out the BMW M3 by a few laps, and snagging a shiny new red formula gran turismo, thank goodness. I'm not so sure how long it'll be til i try another 24 hour race, but i think i could use a break!

So how many cans of Red Bull did you go through? Or did you drink Rockstar or Monster instead?

I bet a fully tuned Suzuki GSX/R4 should work. One of the best cars in the game that's not a race car, and it outawesomes (is that even a real word? oh well) cars with more than twice the power. I love it even without power mods, and now imagine it with more power!

1. Don't enter yet. Unless you have a Minolta race car, go do the El Capitan endurance with a fully tuned version of the top car in your garage (In B-Spec).

2. Take the Minolta you probably have and give it Stage 4 turbo.

3. Go enter the Minolta in the 24 hour race on the 'Ring. I recommend you do it in B-Spec.

4. You're on your own. Do whatever you want for the endless duration of the race.

5. When you win (you should, tell me if you don't), you have an F1 car, with some money to boot. Want more cash? Sell the Minolta, as it's good, but still not as good as the F1.

6. Go nuts (Besides selling it) with your new FGT.

iluvgt4, welcome to the forums.

a little friendly advice:
- Being that the original poster completed this race approx 4 weeks ago, I don't know if they would see your advice.
- Being that GT4 has been out close too five years, everybody knows the Toyota 88-CV will kill any competition in the 'ring 24hr race, even without a Trubo 4.
- Being that the original poster also said that they wish to do the WHOLE thing in A-spec, giving B-spec advice is not extremely helpful.
- You should really try and not double post, you will notice a couple of icons in the bottom right side of your post. One of them is edit, one of them is Multi Quote.

Again welcome to the forums, and i hope you enjoy your stay. However please be mindful about posting quality posts, that are helpful.

I am psyching myself up for my 2nd run through of the Nurburgring 24Hr race, for 200Pts using a Shelby Series 1. Spent a couple of hours yesterday developing the setup and practising, did 2 hrs of actual race time to make sure the car could compete and it could. May make a start today, my advice to you would be to pick a good, fun car to drive and not make the race too easy or you will just get bored and switch it off.

Sounds like an interesting find there, good luck with the shelby up againt actual race cars. Obviously let us know who it pans out :)

This I'm looking forward to hearing about.
Always a fan of a good 200 A-spec points race. 👍

Good luck hearing from me about this race.

This not so much.
So you're going to B-spec Nurb' 24hr in an 88C-V which is total overkill having won it by totally overkilling the El Capitan 200 miles in B-spec mode and you're advising that we then use the FGT to decimate all the rest of the races? 👎
Wow, you must be a helluva driver.
Oh, no, wait a moment, you bought a driving game to use the B-spec feature in overkill cars so that you can watch someone else drive for you. :yuck:

Perhaps you should explore making your own driving skills better by actually driving something that doesn't have every modification in the book, plus Stage 4 turbo + NOS on it, and live up to your username by loving GT4 yourself instead of just having your PS2 getting all the GT4luv! 💡

Well, I did start the race today and have not quit it yet, 7Hrs & 20 minutes in & over 5 minutes in the lead now and sadly as I thought the race is rather easy, going against my own advice I guess. The Shelby is just class, I won't say much better than the opposition but good enough. Problem is the 2nd placed Falken, he pit's every 5 laps just as I do but on his in lap he loses anywhere between 10-20 seconds, tires must be red raw is all I can think of. On his 1st 4 laps out of the pits it's pretty even as far as speed goes, sometimes he will gain a second or 2 and sometimes he will lose it. I was going to quit but the car is so good, makes a terrific noise and is so much more fun to drive than the GSX that I used last time for this race.

However, despite the race being easy for 200pts (and I just don't see the point doing a 24hr race for anything less) I would recommend the car for this one, I will post the full setup in the appropriate thread when i'm done but basically, Shelby Series 1 Supercharged, R1/R1 tires, 86 Ballast and a tweaked suspension is all that's needed, no NOS. I also attempted this race purely stock on S2 tires however despite making it up to 3rd place but the Falken was nearly 20 seconds ahead by lap 3, so a no go there.:(

nemesis01 what was your opposition?

I always use this opposition for the 24h Ring event (PAL lineup #8):

1 Vauxhall Calibra Super Touring Car `94
2 Abt Audi TT-R Touring Car `02
3 Nissan Falken GT-R Race Car `04
4 Audi A4 Touring Car `04
5 BMW M3 GTR Race Car `01

The 1st NTSC lineup:

Toyota Superautobacs Apex MR-S '00
AMG Mercedes 190 E Evol Touring Car '92
Nissan C-West Razo Silvia JGTC '01
Nissan Falken GTR Race Car '04
Opel Calibra Touring Car '94

In truth, I should have gone for a lineup including the A4 at the very least. Still, it's not all bad, far from it as I say the car is wonderful and I can admire the scenery wizzing by at 1080i.👍

Isn't that the shot you posted for Nurb' 4hrs though?
That's a little easier to get consistent as there's more spread of possible AI opposition. ;)
For 24hr race you've the possibility of getting the Chaparral 2D (Hare) in the same lineup as the C-West Razo Silvia (Tortoise) and there's absolutely no chance of them staying within 1.5 mins of each other within 15 laps.

This is a shot from the 24h race I have done.

Doesn´t matter if I do a 4h or a 24h race , the replay cuts off between 1.5 and 2hrs.

I can do another 4h race for you and show you the shot the replay cuts off if you want.

By the way I have not found a opposition at 4h Ring that is as close as in the 24h race.

If you have such a lineup please tell me

raVer

Sadly, NTSC does not get that lineup. The closest that I've found is four touring cars and a JGTC300 car. nemesis, if you're twenty seconds behind at lap three when using S2 tires, you actually probably have a chance at winning unless you have to pit every three or four laps. I say that because not only do you start five seconds behind the leader at the start of the race, but you also run your slowest laps right at the beginning of the race, when you are still carrying a lot of fuel and haven't become accustomed to the track. And, of course, the Falken loses piles of time on its fifth lap as a result of red tires, so I suspect that over the course of 24 hours, you would find yourself a couple of minutes ahead of the field.

No, that's OK, I'm aware that the replay cutoff time isn't related to the particular race that you're participating in, but since that picture was posted in a discussion on 4hr races I'd (wrongly) assumed that it was from a 4hr race. :guilty:

Sadly it seems that the replay times, and lineups for 24hr Nurb' race are yet more differences between the PAL game and the NTSC version, especially since there's another PAL user that's verified that replays typically go to almost 2hrs, and plenty of NTSC guys here saying it's around 50 min maximum, and of course my experience in lineup fishing for a good 24hr Nurb' race, along with Austin343's statements above, it's clear the PAL guys are privy to a more balanced AI field here. :(

so I suspect that over the course of 24 hours, you would find yourself a couple of minutes ahead of the field.

That's entirely possible yes, although I don't think i'm quite brave enough to attempt it yet. Maybe somebody who is much better than me would see it as a challenge, but for me it may be too close for comfort, for now anyway but who knows what the future will bring.

I really would use the Pescarolo (either) because its incredably smooth and if you even tune it up a little it will set fasties.

On the long straits or both Cirqite de sarthe and the ring most Prototype cars are bumpy as **** and are hard to control. But this car is smoother and easy to control.

Along with the fact that it's tyres will hold up awhile.

You like fun and a bit of competition in your races?

Then try this car for your next 24hr Nurburgring event attempt (don´t forget to take a peek at the tyre selection :) )

This was the 1st lap of my 24hr Nurb testrun

by the way one of my favourite cars in the game :D
