Hi.

I'm new on here and to sim racing. I've just got a PS4 and a Logitech G29 and am looking forward to starting to learn to drive with GT Sport (and possibly also Dirt Rally).

No real aspirations of greatness but plan on working through the lessons and the new offline campaign thing. I would appreciate any hints and tips to make sure I do things sensibly.

Specifically on the G29, is there a consensus on the best settings for this wheel with my PS4? From an initial play, it felt like it might be worth tweaking the defaults. Or do I just need to get used to the feel of a computer wheel controller? I've seen various threads referring to 7/8/2 and the like but I'm not sure quite what that means.

More generally, any views on whether there are driver assistance settings that I should definitely switch on or switch off? For example, should I drive with auto gears initially til I get the hang of other things or use clutchless manual from the start?

Any tips on targets I might set myself to make progress?

Thanks for reading. Any and all advice gratefully received.

Go through the game lessons first, do them till you get gold, if you gold the brake tests without TCS and helicopter view, you are going to be a natural.
Do the circuit experience till you get golds.
Do the etiquette videos for sport mode, but don't do a sport race yet.
Sign with a manufacturer to get a loan gr3 and gr4 car.

You should be comfortable with the wheel and tracks now, head online into some online lobbies and get practice racing against people and on the tracks.

Now head in to daily sport races qualifying mode and set a time you can repeat. And can stay on the track.

Finally head in to a sport race and enjoy. You should be better than most of the competition and be able to spot and avoid collisions.
You will have 5 races at DR:E, make the most of these as you could get 5 wins/poles/fastest laps if your competitors haven't prepared.

You should level up pretty quick and find the racing competitive, if it gets too hard, run in some lobbies again to improve, then go back to sport mode.

I wish that's what I did

For wheel settings, I like 7,4,4. 7 is pretty much a must, the bottom two are down to your preference, well the 7 is up to you, but better to get use to 7 now.

Just went through this as I got one for Christmas . I was a DR C before I got the wheel and eventually went down to Dr D. Now I am on the cusp of Dr C again!

So my advice is to go through the campaign and also do some laps on the controller and then on the wheel to see where you need to work on. Don’t make the mistake I did and go into Sport Mode after a few laps on the wheel. Stay away until you get faster or else they’ll run you off the track and your DR will drop.

I actually began left foot braking and that has really helped my time. Good luck buddy! See ya online!

Left foot hovering over the brake is a must.
Using your paddle shifters too. Using the gears to help brake the car.
Use the invisible car view, it feels more like the balance of a real car IMO, the sense of speed is better too.

Why is 7 a must?

I've read, and think, although it could be placebo, that the 0-7 option is affecting the steering rack speed.
With 7 being the shortest steering rack.
