I am looking for advice on sporty & classy car to buy. Primarily interested in convertible but would also consider a car with sunroof.. trying to spend no more than 40-42K. please note that i am 23 years old... don't want something to old-personish.. would consider modding a car to make it cooler..

I have looked at the following cars and have the following opinions so far:

Convertibles:
Z4 - coo design but little strange. 2.5 is a little slow. 3.0 is a tad expensive. potentially too trendy. lot of people starting to get them from preorders...

3 SERIES - too expensive new. overpriced used. little conservative

AUDI TT - girls car. front wheel drive.

THUNDERBIRD - crappy inside. cool in a way cuz different... but im 23... did i mention interior sucks??

HONDA S2000 - this would probably be my pick if it weren't for the fact that at 6 ft. 2 i CANT FIT. this one definitely out for that reason.

MUSTANG- not very classy - little "rednecky"

350Z ROADSTER - doesnt come out till July - miss half the convertible season - may be overpriced for a nissan esp. since brand new..

Coupes:

350Z - NO SUNROOF - this is a big deal for me since i would prefer a convertible anyway....

3 Series - classy, but a bit conservative... prefer smaller cars.. drives REALLY nice and really good interior...

ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(by the way i currently drive a 97 celica w/sunroof - way too slow)

I would buy the 350Z Coupe over the converitble. But I would also buy it over all of those other cars, even if you could fit in an S2000. It is a car that you'll fall in love with. Its also the fastest.

Ditto 12sec. Civic's comments about the 350Z... fabulous car. 👍 (Though the exhaust note ain't the best, but, ya know...)

BTW, did you fall asleep and slam your head on the keyboard when you made your screen name?

;)

Why not get a used (not ABUSED) SKYLINE from Motorex and then dump the extra cash in mods for it (if it isn't ALREADY fixed up) ???? Chances are... no one else around will have one AND you'll probably be able to STOMP just about anything on the street in your area!!
What do you think??

You don't get the Audi TT with Quattro 4WD there? Or is it out of budget?
I think its still cool after so many years.

The 350Z Coupe...in that orange-brown colour... Quite a nice car...but these cars are all pretty expensive...:\

Dude, go test drive a cooper S. I think you would love it. Anyone who says its a chick car has never driven it. Very fun to drive, BMW quality, sunroof I think, good design.

Not saying it would be perfect for you, just saying dont shrug the option off yet. You may love them.

Yeah - we get it and it's under budget. Not a bad buy, but the V6'd be so much sweeter...

...but according to Auto World magazine they're only selling about 6500 in the US, and most of them are already spoken for.

I've seen late '70s Corvettes going for about $25,000 or so on the private market, although you may want to add a few thousand on top of that for some restoration work. I wouldn't really go for anything newer since 'Vettes tend to lead rough lives, the older ones would at least be fixed up and taken better care of.

you could spend the extra money you would on a classic vette and get a new one and also spend the money on restoration. the blocks would be newer and hence be easier/cheaper to restore. in my opinion the new vettes are beautiful and look slightly better than the old ones. but then they all sound amazing! :D

Yeah, but it's not just the engine. The suspension, drivetrain and brakes would need attention too, and the tires and probably also the wheels would most certainly need replacing. C4 'Vettes ('84-'96) get abused a lot since they're not too hard to find and fairly cheap as far as sports cars go these days, and a C5 would go over his $40,000 budget. A brand new one is about $55,000 with the basic options.
