AI and Tyres

I need clarification. If my gt. 4 car starts with default hard racing tyres, and I change to racing softs will the AI in the race also have racing hard tyres? Or do they correlate with your own? In a custom race of 3 laps is the setting

The races I have done they continue to put on Hard tires. Doesn't make sense, since I go to softs and just kill them.
