Al Unser Sr., the second of the four four-time Indianapolis 500 winners, has passed away at the age of 82.

This has been a brutal year for fans of American open wheel racing, since we'd already lost his older brother Bobby, multiple CART race winner Andre Ribeiro, and journalists Bob Jenkins and Robin Miller.

Godspeed, Big Al.

When I arrived on GTPlanet this afternoon, I was stunned seeing this news about Al Unser Sr. Another all-time great lost. My condolences go out to the entire Unser family as well as all who known and loved this legend.
