If you're fully clothed right now, I suggest stripping, to save unwanted stainage, and strategic placement of absorbent materials.

Alfa Romeo have decided to put the 8C into production, probably using the same carbon fibre body/spaceframe chassis construction of the concept car and rumoured to be using a 440 hp V8 powerplant based on the current Ferrari-Maserati unit. Which means it'll likely be a departure for FWD Alfa.

Seen it yet?

No? Ready?

I mean it. Steady yourself. Clothes off, bog roll on standby.

Seriously.

Car porn! Car porn!

It's not the sexiest car in the world.
I don't really like it all that much, to tell the truth. The headlights are too big and dopey.

Should be an awesome drive, though.

Meh.

Profile looks TVR, rearend has 'Skyline' tail-lights...

The body looks very smooth though (no vents, doorhandles etc.) so that's good.

Interior looks cluttered and busy, but that could be inpart to the auto-show photo. I like the 'deep' gauge look that they've carried over though.

Should be a cracking drive, and with that short wheelbase it ought to be real handful too!

Good to see they're getting away from the FWD I hate - it's a real performance killer.

*EDIT*: The more I look at it the more I see cues coming from other cars. Like I said, the TVR profile, but now in the front I see Enzo, Scaglietti, and Maserati's Gran Sport.

Overall: not bad though. 👍

I saw that car first, must be well over a year ago, it looked sexy then, and god it still looks good now. I don't see much TVR in the profile, just generic front engined rear wheel drive sports car. And the tail lights are round, other than the round it doesn't look like a Skyline tail light, maybe I'm just looking at it very differently to you, but it's a damn nice car. But the front end is complete classic Alfa, if you see any other cars maybe they took cues from some classic Alfa's as well.

ferrari_chris, I'm pretty sure that most of those companies you named [TVR, Nissan, Ferrari (street cars)] took a lot of their design cues from Alfa Romeo. Alfa has been making cars since 1907. How long has Nissan/Datsun been around? Exactly. You're looking at pure Alfa in the 8C Competizione, the other companies copied them.
Famine, I think you're right about the car porn thing. This concept was absolutely stunning when it was unveiled, and it still is. What's it been, 2 or 3 years? These days car design moves quick, but this girl still looks hot. I'm not really into her face, but look at those hips, that butt! Uhhhhhhh!!

Hmmm, I fail to see how the front is more an updated, stylised, classic Alfa than it is inspired by others. :indiff:

Oh god, that would be bad ass if it went into production!
Hey, I got good news!(and it's not Geico). Check out the thread title. :P

I like the design. I'm a fan of Alfa Romeo's design as well, however, I think the headlights and taillights could be improved. I would love some black trims going across the back of that car, and the taillights sitting in/on it. Think Ferrari F40 or F50. As for the headlights, I wish it was bit slimmer. Calm down, Famine. Just my opinion. ;)

The car looks good, damn good. But, I have a few questions:

1) Did Alfa use it's GM ties and use the Kappa platform, or is this all new from FIAT?

2) What kind of power are we looking at under the hood?

3) What are the chances this is Alfa's launch car here in the US in 2009?

The side profile is great, but I agree with the others about something not being right about the front, maybe not so much with the headlights, but definitly the grille. :yuck:

Anyone know what one of these will run price wise? If the rumor about the engine is correct, we could easily be looking at a 6 digit machine.

Imo, everything about the Alfa's profile is different exept for the fact it has a long nose and a sloping roofline, which is pretty generic for a front engined rear wheel drive sportscar of that mould, not many are different. Nothing else looks anything alike, the wheearches are completely differet, making the shoulders completely different, the roof of the Alfa slopes down in a more curved way the alfa has that line running behind the front arch, nothing about them is the same apart from the bit's that describe every car going for that segment. I guess we just look at cars in a different way.

It's just like a modern TZ2.

The back of the 8C is a bit like the Sagaris, but the 8C does not have the lush spoiler. But the 8C is one of the best looking cars I have seen in a while, but still i think the Jaguar E-Type is the best looking car of all time guys.

No, that's the 'automotive porn' equiverlent of armpits

I about died when i read that.

It does suspiciously look like the TVR but I would take it regardless!

Very hot Alfa, almost makes me forget about the DB9 for a few seconds.

I like the big headlights, brings a nice old classic look. Not every modern car needs tiny LED flashing jewelery type blingo headlights wrapped in silverfoil spaceshuttle crumpet-crispies.

The TVR (T350) would probably be more reliable.

Marginally less pretty though.

The profile also resemebles the Dodge Viper. Oh look, another Front engined car.

Abd the tail lights resembling a Skyline? WTF? They're not even big-n-little pairs.

Yes, it is definitely car porn. :dopey:

But nothing causes stains for me as much as the Hispano-Suiza HS21 concept of not too long ago.

You're saying that circular taillights are now 'Skyline' taillights?

You must have been born in the past 5 years or so, because there have been hundreds, yes hundreds, of cars before the Skyline to have circular taillights.

Damn, those Skyline lights are everywhere!

Not forgetting nearly all Ferrari rear lights that are CLEARLY ripped off from Nissan! Shame Pininfarina, Shame!

The ONLY Alfa I can think of that I can assume has any kind of legitimate Nissan GTR rip off value is:
http://hvtm.totalcar.hu/car/m/alfa_romeo/531325.jpg

But Alfa CAN get away with it, they've had circular lights as a strong design element (intermittently) for as long as Ferrari, pretty much. I'd wager that the circular lights thingy is probably Italian in origin and ripped off by the yanks for their performance cars and then the Japanese thought it was cool.

Nissan gets used tracing paper from Italy via the US! (just me guessing really...) :)

 Skyline lights... they're on every bus in our garage.

As for the 8C, about time they put their money where their mouth was. Beautiful, classic profile, but the nose... somehow Subaru has ruined that whole "triangle-in-the-middle-of-another-grille" for me... If I didn't have the TriBeCa burned in the back of my brain, I would say the nose is beautiful.

But I like the Brera's nose better... so much more involved and detailed... fussy? yes, but I like it.

Of course, they had to ruin the Brera by making it front-wheel drive and putting that gorgeous nose three feet out in front of the front wheels... :indiff:

You bastard! Don't tell me that! Now I am reminded of the Subaru-spewage nose in this beautiful Alfa!

I am relocating my mental images of both cars to opposite sides of my brain - as far away from each other as possible - to limit any cross-referencing! :sly:

the reason for earlier cars having round taillights is simple. They're funtional because that is the shape of the bulb with the parabolic housing. Either way, I can guarantee that there were no un/intentional styling references or influences in this or any Alfa Romeo ever. Some people overestimate the importance and influence that the Skyline has on the automotive public. Other than the Japanese and some hazy-eyed Skylined followers, nobody really likes the car.
