Allergy sufferers ?? Anyone here ?

I suffer really really bad with hayfever, anything associated with the summer I sneeze at or cough at and my eyes stream all day long when its really bad. Its not just summer for me thoug, its dust and hairs as well.

I live in the UK so in other countries I guess the pollen is of a different type/kind but the purpose of my post is to share thoughts on remedies for Hayfever or things to make it easier for sufferers.

I used to have a Kenalog (an injection) each year before the season started which would last the full year but due to me having it too many years on the trot it didnt work last year so I havent had it this year.

The tablet that works the best for me is Benadryl one a day, it seems to keep the hayfever quieter than normal but doesnt prevent it altogether.

I have started taking ester-c from Holland and Barretts which is a Vitamin C supplement (along with other vitamins) and it seems to be working for me, granted the weather hasn't been as good as the past few weeks in the UK, but it seems to have kept the constant sneezing runny eyes and coughing to a minimum.

Share your thoughts and remedies in this thread and try and help us hayfever sufferers out !!

Thanks

BigJ.

I've got allergies. Dust, pollen, and some animals, specifically horses, but dogs and cats can bother me if they smell bad enough  I've also got a nut allergy, I vomit if I eat something with nuts in it, but I'm fine for almonds, I can eat those with no problems.

I'm allergic to pollen, and penasillin(sp?) I do get hay fever as well, but hardly where I live, mostly I get it when I go to sydney, dunno why. I also have Asthma.

I am allergic to people to eat noisily. I have a barely repressible urge to throw any inaminate object at then to get then to stfu.

Seriously though, no allegies yet but my dad is allergic to cat and dog hair. Get all sneezy and his eyes water some.

Dust, mold and some weeds.. They cause my nose to be extremely stuffed up and my allergies have made me go many nights with little to no sleep at all because of ti

how I deal with it:
I'm almost immune to all over the counter solutions
The doc put me on Flonase but I'm immune to that
I was on shots for them for 2 years and I was immune to them as well 👍

I've got other complications that make the effects of the allergies a lot worse. The inside structure of my nasal passage is kinda deformed so the passages about half of the size of what they should be. I've had surgery for it back in 7th grade but the problem came back after less than a year :irked:.

It's summer now so my allergies are absolutely terrible. Still, my doc won't send me off to an ENT specialist to have the operation again. Stupid docs here don't do anything helpful unless it's absolutely urgent :grumpy:.

I've had these problems for as long as I can remember so I'm kinda used to them but holy farkin crap allergies are annoying.

I've been miserable for a while now. Yesterday I could barely function. The sinus pressure builds up and just sits there, until it grows bacteria and I get a sinus infection. That's what the doctor says. Then I have to take medication for it. But I also have a bad cold to go with it.

You should tell your docs that its really getting you down and depressing you - they usually go out of their way to help you here if thats the case. Mind you I get really really down sometimes with hayfever, Im always in a bad mood with a short temper as Ive felt awful the whole day.

I can only breathe through one nostril at a time, probably because of a sevre dust allergy compacted by a misshapen nasal cavity or something. Been that way for almost six years now. Really sucks.

One of these days I'm goin to go see an ENT and have him Dremel out a huge hole in my skull.

I think I'm allergic to grass. Every time I spend a day outside, then the next day I will have a very stuffy nose, watery eyes, and stuff. If I take a Claritin D in the morning it usually takes care of it for the rest of the day, though.

Sounds like hayfever.

No allergies here. Nature's got nothing on me!

:grumpy: lucky bastige. I've had the problem for the past 13 years - only once has the doc sent me to the ENT to have a hole drilled in my skull. I desparately need it again because it's worse than the first time.

1 word, FLONASE.
Works excellently. I use it...I have allergies with pollen and possibly mold...with Flonase I can drive my 323 at 80mph with the windows down and when I get out of the car I'm perfectly fine, no sneezing or anything. I suggest it.

I don't have any seasonal allergies, i'm only allergic to pennecilin, so I hope I don't get any bacterial infections that require pennecilin! since pennecilin is derived from mold, I am somewhat allergic to mold, so I sneeze sometimes in the summer when the mold count is high. It's never bad enough to require medicine, though.

Flonase doesn't do jack.
I used that stuff for like two months.
First week, I could almost tell a different, sometimes.

Now it's about as effective as powdered mud.

I never really liked the idea of mass-produced medicines much. I don't agree with treating something as infinietly variable and unpredictable as the human body like it's a machine.

I'm allergic to cats and pollen. I'm rarely around cats, so it isn't really a problem, but I hate the summer months where the pollen count is high.

If I sneeze a few dozen times in a row, I might take some Zyrtec. It seems to help.

Yes, this is more than likely hayfever, or a mild form of that kind of allergy. Clarytin is quite effective - Im glad it works for you !!

You've got to remember that some remedies work for some and not for others - Its just a process of elimination trying to find the one that works best for you.

So I guess you suffer as well Famine !!!

Klostro - Zirtek is also another big name brand that is effective for some.

Allegra and Allegra-D.
Zyrtec also works for me
and there's a drug out there for asthma sufferers that is the dog's bollocks called Singular.

With most nasal sprays I get the "Afrin effect" where overuse causes them to work half as long with your nose slamming shut like a bank vaultat the end of the effectiveness. Flonase is one of the few that does not do that to me.

I cant abide nasal sprays - They never work as immediately after I squeeze the stuff up there - I sneeze and it all comes back out again !!

I found out a few years back that I'm allergic to mint. I almost died trying out a chewing gum which had spearmint in it. My tongue was swollen within a minute of chewing it and had to rush to the emergency.

I also have an allergy to mustard seeds, if there are any traces of mustard in my food, I end up vomiting my soul out. :nervous:

Sucks to have allergies. Sucks even more to develop a food allergy later in life.

I only learned about two years ago enough aspartame gives me the runs. Chewing a piece of gum isn't enough, but a bottle of soda on the other hand will do me in.

Dust and pollen for me.

Re: Zyrtec (from 11 years ago):

I used to use Zyrtec, until I discovered that if I didn't take it for one night I would have massive itching in my scalp, preventing me from sleeping. I looked it up and discovered that I'm not the only one that had these Zyrtec withdrawal symptoms. I promptly switched to Benadryl and have been happy since. (Benadryl is also much cheaper per pill than Zyrtec...when I discovered that three Zyrtec pills cost about the same as 24 Benadryl pills (~$8), the deal was even more sealed.

If my allergies are particularly bad and Benadryl still doesn't help I take a Sudafed as well.
