Alternative for motor swaps

Since it's too late for GT5 additions, I figured the proper place for this idea would be in the GT6 boards here. We in the drag racing sub-forum, as well as others I would assume, have had our share of people wanting engine swaps like the Forza games for Xbox. Unless I've missed a thread here, I may have an alternative for that.

Instead of giving the option for changing out the motor, why not, in the premium dealership of course, offer the option for buying different MODELS of a specific car. These model upgrades could be awarded when you beat a make-only set of races, much like a championship set of races. Instead of winning a car or credits, however, the unlock for model upgrade would be given as a "ticket" to be redeemed at the dealer. There can also be higher tiers for more powerful/exotic models, and each set of races individual per make that you're trying to win them for. Lets use an example:

The '69 Chevrolet Camaro - Baseline is currently a Z28 with a 302 motor. Lets say instead that they'll offer a baseline RS model with the 140hp motor, making that the "starting model" or the one that you can get without doing any upgrade races.

Car....Cubic Inch....Level
Camaro RS (230) -- Tier 1(base)
Camaro Z28 (302) -- Tier 2
Camaro SS (396) -- Tier 3
Yenko Camaro (427) -- Tier 4(RM tier)

Or the Chevy Corvette C6

Corvette (364) -- Tier 1
Corvette Grand Sport (376) -- Tier 2
Corvette Z06 (427) -- Tier 3
Corvette ZR1 (376SC) -- Tier 4/RM

In this aspect, you could retain RM models for cars, while adding and/or replacing standard models of said cars with premium additions with the proper badges and streamline the process of attaining them. The differences being these cars have replaced motors with the proper of their model and year, also being more powerful than current models and also have the ability to be tuned to more horsepower than current levels. This would be less time-consuming than the addition of swapping motors, and give PD a chance to add make-specific races to mimic what they are doing with seasonal events.

Feedback is welcome, both positive and negative. And ideas to reinforce this are also a welcomed addition.

Edit: Consider the heaping amount of Subaru WRX, Nissan Skylines, Mitsubishi Lancer/3000GTs, and other duplicates. This could merge them into a smaller group, while still retaining the best models for higher tiers.

I think adding engine swaps would be more simple from a coding standpoint and have a bigger appeal from a gamer standpoint.

I am very much against the tier system. Experienced that in a few NFS games and did not like it at all.

I don't know... well, the thing about offering different engine options to each car sounds good, but having to do different events to unlock them doesn't appeal to me. If I want to buy a Camaro SS I don't want to get a Camaro RS first so that I can get the SS later.

The different versions should just be offered in the dealership, like usual.

Ditto the two above. I'm really hoping GT6 doesn't have the usual "funnelling" approach to the game, where you have to take a certain, time consuming path to get through the game against AI a blind man could beat while driving backwards...on a tricycle. Even if the AI are challenging, I still wouldn't want to do it...lol. I buy the game to race other human beings, not a computer.

Although I'd applaud having several real life engine options available for the same basic car (although not the unnecessary complicated way to obtain them), it still isn't the same as having a full engine swap function whereby you can fit an engine of another model (but probably same brand) altogether which offers a whole new world of possibilities.
Ofcourse both can be implemented simultaneously as they obviously aren't mutually exclusive (just potentially more engines available to swap ;)).

Agreed.

Give each engine a size class and weight. Give each car an engine position and maximum engine size class.

Using just those parameters you can do almost any practical engine swap and take into account the approximate correct weight distribution.

I would say that you would also need to add engine manufacturer to that list. While it is possible to put a Chevy engine in a Ford it would not be as simple as placing a Ford engine in a Ford and would also require a Trans swap and some other mods driving the cost up quite a bit.

You can make it as complicated or as simple as you want. I just don't see PD putting a super realistic engine swap system in the game. Look how "realistic" the mod system in GT5 is.
