I finally decided to dedicate myself to proper sim racing and for that I needed a rig.

Summer 2013 I got to work for a month and earned some money that I could spend. A rig build on a budget. Challenge Accepted!

Fourtunatly GTPlanet has a bit of everything and I found SIMUL8R's inspired DIY PVC rig. It was just what I needed. A build out of a cheap-ish material. Wood was just too expensive, metal it was too heavy and expensive and buying a decent one just didn't leave with enough room for a wheel still within the budget (420€).

The rig was redesigned to save as much material as I could so that way I could save money. However it didn't turn out as sturdy as I wanted on both poles upwards. It isn't noticeble when driving but I'm not happy with it at all.

So in August I started the bulid and finished the PVC frame within a week. It costed me, the PVC, around 80€. Then I started to think about how should I place and secure the wheel and the seat. Wood planks were the solution but how am I supposed to secure that? Well there are metal clamps with a nut on top that allowed me to bolt the wood on place. 20€ for the wood and applicants.

So with that done two things left reamaning: the seat and the wheel.

Right the seat is up next. A few years ago when my brother moved out to the capital because college he wanted some sofas. What did he do? Bought the seats off a Ford Transit in a junkyard. So my seat would come from a junkyard aswell. When driving I past through one where a wrecked 350Z was and I thought "That's it! *lightbulb appeard*", but then I realized it was going to be very expensive, so I turned my head to another seat. A Smart ForTwo one. It had a great package: lightweight, sporty look, comfortable, small and it had premium (Mercedes does them) all over it. Picked the passenger seat for 60€ (these are very looked after because, apparently, people put them in Suzukis a lot).

By September I had the rig completed. Only the wheel left. My budget was now down to 260€.

Last week was my birthday and on that occasion I wanted a DFGT, but it was sold out everywhere. Completly everywhere. And the G27 was out of the budget. A dilemma I had and it had to be decided quickly. Apparently my parents were one step ahead and a G27 appeared out of nowhere. Guess what it had cost? The remaining budget. But it was a gift so I hadn't to pay it. I guess I got lucky :D

Pic of the thing: (I don't have any pics of the build because my phone broke (Sony's....) and all the pics went away)

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did on building it. And now to update it even further. *flies away*

Thank you very very much. You talked about it in my thread, now I've an image how it will look like...

Hopefully I could find one (or two...maybe three, because I've a Suzuki too) :sly:

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yes it is definitly a good option to have a decent priced rig. I managed to drop it to between half or even a third of the price of a pre-made, branded rig, so I would say it was a win

Nice. I'm loving your design for adjusting the height of the steering wheel/column. I should have implemented something like that for mine too but it never even crossed my mind.
