Am I the only one using 1x?!

I mainly shoot all my pics in 1x due to the extreme amount of time 2x takes to process. I get the feeling at times like I'm the only one consistently posting 1x shots.

What do you use?

I like to use 2x for replays and 1x for photo travel. Photo travel takes for ever in 2x. It looks great but i dont have the patience:sly:

You know I dont know if I ever even paid attention to if 2x was faster in replay mode. I'll have to give that a go next time.

I'll use 1X to take the picture initially, but I'll never save that one.

If I take it with 1X and it looks really good, then I re-take it in 2X and save it.

I use 2X for cleaning up Standards or if there is a photo I really like.

I do most pictures in 2x, I just like how clear it comes up. I don't really care for the wait, because I'll know it will be good. :sly:
But I use 1x for things like GT5 avatars, since they'll be small, anyways.

I use 2x, because it looks better. It may be time consuming, but you get wows :D

(I'm gonna do a comparison, 1x vs. 2x)

I've been using X2 ever since I found out about it.

If I'm posting something for a bunch of people to see, I want it to be the best it can be.

Here's my comparison!

I don't feel the need to have in introduction, so lets jump right in!

Ordinary, Simple Shot (Settings are stock)[
Starting with a regular point-and-click shot.

X1-
Looks ok, not a “wow, that's awesome!” shot.
8013496754_a638007d5d_c.jpg

X2-
8013492683_c150d20239_c.jpg

Looks sharper, but as I said earlier, still not really a wow shot.

Normal Bokeh Shot

Now let's add in some bokeh.

X1-
8013494924_067c94dbb5_c.jpg

Now this is more of an eye-catching shot. Looks sharper than the ordinary X1.

X2-
8013495036_4010e7ee97_c.jpg

Now we're talkin' a bit more!

Ordinary, Simple B&W

Now I'm going to add some effect.

X1-
8013492393_45669d2b2d_c.jpg

Looks okay, not very fitting though.

X2-
8013492227_a8d4a7e281_c.jpg

This one is significantly better.

Normal B&W Bokeh Shot

Time to shake it up!

X1-
8013491969_4034d225d3_c.jpg

That's actually pretty nice.

X2-
8013491857_0007d39588_c.jpg

I looooooove this!

Stock Detail Shot

X1-
8013495540_53ec88386d_c.jpg

Ew.

X2-
8013505416_abe9b73fc3_c.jpg

Better, but still ew....

Bokeh Detail Shot

Mmm chocolate!

Hate to say it but I see absolutely no difference whatsoever in those shots. Maybe because they aren't full res or something.

My biggest point has been that 1x seems to be good enough for web viewing. It's not like you are trying to make prints from posts on this site (or are some people?)

1x is 1920x1080 @ 72dpi
2x is 3840x2160 @ 72dpi

However, when you upload the images to flickr they are compressed down to a normalized sizes at that same 72dpi. (ie 500, 640, 800 etc)

I agree you'll see a difference if you view the images side by side in their native resolutions respectively, but trying to differentiate web images on a monitor with both images at the same size it is just that. Two images, same size, same resolution.

I think the 2x is really much more important for printing or heavy post edit where you can really use the extra res for gradients and such.

Just my $.02 after thinking about it for a bit.

Are some of the people here using a different version of time than me?

You're moaning about the wait for 2x shots when it probably take 1 minute or so to process.

You're making out like you have to wait for about 5hours!

I test shoot at 1x then I shoot at 2x when I'm happy with the shot. I normally take 3-5 shots per session, and I maybe shoot once a week. that's not much time to spend.

Unless most of you here spend hours taking terrible shots everyday! :P

So to clarify, 2x means higher resolution? Sounds pretty cool to me, will most likely start using this from now on.

Yes, it can take from 2-5 minutes to actually display the shot that you've taken, and the difference from 1X to 2X is very minor, and the file size increases as well. But if you don't mind that, and want the best images without compromise, as I do, then yes it's definitely worth it.

My tip would be to initially take all your images with 1X but don't save any of them. If you take an image that you really like, then go back and take it again with 2X. That way you don't end up waiting 5 minutes for an image that you end up trashing.

Mine is consistently over 5min per 2x shot now.

I dont touch it unless it's "like the best image I've ever composed".

It was fast when I first got the ps3. Made me think it was just filling up the drive but I still have over 90gb free so that aint it. Is there a cache or something to clear?

Try clearing the cache in the settings. Not sure if it would help though. Or you could try reinstalling GT5 data.

For me, it always has been 1x, unless the shot seems like a really good one, then I'll up it to 2x and save again.

When 1 minute is compared to a few seconds, 1 minute is a long time. :P

It's even worse when your PC and your TV have different brightness and contrast, and you'll have to take 3 (or 4) photos of different exposure just to see how it looks on two different screens. :ill:

That's my biggest complaint too. Otherwise, it's not so bad to take all shots at X1 until you get what you like and then do the X2 for the final shot.

Tried the 2x again in replay last night and found it to be even worse. For some reason I was hoping something would "reset" after the update :-(

What do you mean?
A 2x Picture in a race replay has always taken quite some time (about 4 Minutes in my case), but in the end I am willing to spend a little more time, as I like to work with bigger pictures in general and then resize it.

So, I am using 2x everywhere. :)

I can't seem to find it now but there was a post in which somebody said the 2x in replay was a tick faster than travel.

Either way, i underatand it's A LOT of processing for the little ps3 box to crunch out. It just uaes to be so much quicker from what I remember.

It was fast when I first got the ps3.

Same here, when the PS3 was still brand new, it took at most, a minute to take 2x shots. Now, after almost 2 years and lots of play time, it takes up to 5 minutes, maybe more. :ouch:

Just a random question, how many cars do you have in your garage? I've acquired over 1300 cars since I got the game and everything about GT5 has been slow, slow, slow. :ouch: I think having lots of cars slows down GT5, or maybe its just my hard drive dying.

I used to use 2x for the sake of higher resolution, but it takes a lot of time to load, and I don't find it that useful anyway....
