I race hard online but if I accidently bump someone (eg out braking myself) and they go off I back of and let them back infront, this works most of the time but then there is the odd person who just launches you into the grass.

Any views?

Everybody can make mistakes so i think what you do is very good and polite, the other should just except it :) and not take revench

What you did is standard Sim Racing procedure. It is a gesture to let the guy you hit know that you've made a mistake and you are acknowledging it.

Racing incidents do and will happen, the only difference between an accident and deliberate crashing is the intent. What you did was every bit of right and if everyone is like that we will all be living in a better world.

A common mistake for people following cars in front into a corner is the person behind MUST adjust their brake entry to compansate for the added cars in front. If you don't you will crash into the car in front 100% of the time.

This is exactly why people who can simply do fast laps does not automatically implies they are good at racing, because there is a lot more to it in racing than simply cranking out fast laps.

I did the same with Spec I Japanese version.
I also did race with people like that. My first GT5P online race was one vs 6 I think on Daytona oval, I remember me and some other persons were all way in front, and on last lap he gave me the win :), He brake, and went to my side to take the 2nd position.

i did this today, i took someone out by accident we were having a very close battle for 4 laps, we were constantly changing postitions literally every corner. i took him out just after the tunnel on HSR Reverse...he went into the grass , i waited for him and we then coasted at about 60mph in 3rd where the bridge is, he wanted me to go first and i kept braking until he went ahead, eventually he floored it first and secured the win :) . straight after i got a message saying "nice to meet you". what a nice guy, i put him in the white list. his name is Zato-87.

ive raced karts/cars since I was 12 and agree totally you do adjust ur brake point when ur behind someone but its hell of alot more difficult

Guys, I won't be that lucky soon. I haven't play the Japanese games for a month now. Because since I am getting the US version, I wanna wait. So yeah I live in US, and Online play will be too hard, because many players here are need for speed racers.:indiff:
God help me :guilty:

I know exactly what you mean, i have had the same happen and its great when you race against someone clean, i keep forgeting the names of the clean racers, but i hope soon i bump ( not literaly ) into you guys online and maybe we can have a good duel. loving the gt5p! =)

that's what you do with computer simulations, but there's no class in gran turismo racing, so if you bump somebody by accident, just go on and continue to attack. gt's online racing is a joke until we get private rooms and such.

Your being too fair mate! Unintentional knocks and bumps are par for the course when your racing door-handle-to-door-handle. As long as you didn't cause a massive wipe out (and even if you did), don't worry about it. Race clean, and chalk it up to experience! 👍

I remember you from a couple of hours back, we had a great fight on HSR PP650 race. Me in the yellow Elise, you in the dark purple one if I remember correctly. What was the difference over the finish line, about a tenth? And were were at it for three laps! 👍

How refreshing, as is the normality of new game releases is the sheer annoyance. Especially on these type of fan sites/forums is that there a too many damn. Threads were many mainly for a brief while, normally straight after game launch, rant & whinge.

Sorry back on topic, OP.

I do this also.

Not played too many online games, I tend to crash at times, another replier in this thread mentioned that. You've got to be careful, especially careful of speed into corners, more so when your behind the traffic, possible earlier braking is needed. As of the cars ahead, that you'll approach much quicker than I would normally anticipate.

At times I've taken someone out either through my own fault going far to quickly, I'll let the guy pass.

Hell, been rammed far to many times now online, with it being a dodgem-fest.

At present, not a complaint. But how can you tell if there a new player, completely new to racing, or a moron. No ranking sytem, random match making. I don't mind its a prologue after all not the complete game. So I give them the benifit of the doubt, so if they ram me, I'll try and pass them, I ram them let 'em pass. I don't know if they done it on purpose?

Glad to hear there are 'Sportsman like'..........players good on you all.

What goes around comes around.

+1

Again, it's nice to see the sporting drivers do exist... the 'white list' is quite heartwarming! I always try and drive considerately, and don't even retaliate if someone crashes into me because I know that I'll just get hit again by them on the next corner.

The best way of sticking it to the idiot drivers is by beating them :D Works for me!

I look forward to racing some of you guys at some point.

It's always difficult. Basic racing courtesy of adapting to the situation and taking the best line whilst still allowing others space is important (something I always try to observe)

Given the speed and nature of the suzuka track for example; it's easy to hold someone up with very unaggressive blocking, but I usually bleed off the throttle if I know I'm holding a blantantly faster car up (111R). This however is as much self preservation as it is courtesy.

The only time I slowed after accidently nudging someone on HSR to let them past again, I was repaid with a heafty and intentional shunt despite crawling myself. Nevermind eh; my intentions were good.

Cool, glad to finally meet someone of the forum, and who races clean in an elise, be good to have more races, add me to your friends list if you want and we can have some organized races. can you add me to the white list buddy. 👍

It happens, I just had a race with two other guys at HSR and I was a lot faster than both of them (using an F40). So I let them both pass each time on the long straight, to catch up again and have a real race. One was really lagging behind, so coming up to the last lap (out of 5) I just let the one in 2nd place come in front of me and I started to race him. He was doing quite well and I was about to pass him from his slipstream just before the finish line. But he still rammed me into the wall. So much for sportsmansship. It was fun though. :)

I have to say, after tonight, I'm with the crowd that apologise by slowing down and giving back the position.
I was shunted by an Elise straight into the back of a Corvette, who then spun off. So I slowed down and allowed him to pass again as an apology because it was completely out of my hands and I was having a great battle with him up until that point.
So, my advice is: 👍
Keep up the sportsman-like behaviour, it makes such a difference online.

Oh, and the answer to the question is, no, it is close to impossible to be fair, as long as your intentions are good and you are not letting people get away with breaking the rules, sportsmanship is always a good thing.

Had a race last night at Daytona with two other guys and got about half a lap lead. Stopped just before the line, (I'd proved my point), so that they didn't run out of time and could finish the battle they were having.

What it is, you need acceptance from the gt community (because you have no life)so you exhibit conformity and passive ass licking, and beg for praise in the hope you can join the club.

What you did is standard Sim Racing procedure.
I've played all the GT series, but GT5P is my first online racing. Exactly what is standard sim racing procedure and proper race etiquette?

The Licenses in previous GT games do a lot to teach the player about proper racing lines and technique, but little about any sort of etiquette. Exactly how should a racer get back on track if they've just spun off? I'm sure it isn't right to get straight back on track in the path of other cars coming up fast, and one should probably let them pass so as to get back on track cleanly without holding anyone up, but how is any beginner racer supposed to know that? I'm sure there are lots of situations where I'm doing the wrong thing due to ignorance rather than lack of sportsmanship.

I'm hoping that PD will address this in the full GT5 by using the Licenses to somehow teach players something about proper racing etiquette, what they should and shouldn't do in certain situations. I don't think penalties alone can do it, especially as they're implemented now where it often seems to be the victim who gets the penalty.

I do try to race cleanly without touching anyone or anything, but my control isn't what it should be and accidents do happen. Yesterday I was doing an offline Event, lost control in a GT-R, spun 180 and came to a complete stop facing an oncoming car on the raceline, who couldn't do anything but smash into me head-on. That was just an accident, I couldn't help it. But then I turned around by crossing the track, getting in the way of a couple more cars, when I probably should have turned the other way, going off track to get back to the race direction. I didn't think of that until afterwards. Offline AI or real players online, it doesn't matter to me, I'd try to do the right thing if I know what that is.
I probably should have learned more about this sort of thing from previous GTs, but when you're only opponents are AI, it didn't seem as important as it does now when I could be racing against 15 other real people.

Etiquette will be self learned when damage is implemented.

I'm a fair racer myself but rarely meet anyone online with the same mindset, until earlier. I was racing on high speed ring in the beginner super car class in my orange amuse S2000, there was this other guy ctp...something (I've forgotten it) driving the blitz dunlop skyline. For a few races we were nose to tail, he'd take a win then I'd take one etc etc. On one race, it was the last turn of the last lap, he was in front with me gaining on him and he lost control. Spun out in front of me and I had no time to move out the way and went straight into the side of him wiping me out in the process. We were pretty far in front and got going again with him in the just in the lead, I was right up the side of him and he braked just before the finish line giving me the win.
