American Le Mans

What's the difference between the American Le Mans Series and the regular Le Mans series? I looked it up and they seem to have the same car companies running, etc.

Le Mans is not a series. Le Mans, excuse me, the 24 Heures du Mans is a race held annually at the race track La Sarthe. It is known to be most gruelly race in all of motorsports. It tests man's engineering and the car's reliability more than any other race.

The American Le Mans Series, or ALMS, is a series of races that are held under the same rules for the 24 Heures du Mans. The rules that the ACO makes for Le Mans, the ALMS changes it's rules to be the same. That is the main reason you see many of the same teams competing in both the 24 Heures du Mans and in ALMS. Usually the ACO give those teams that compete in ALMS special consideration when choosing teams for the 24 Heures du Mans.
