From the guys and girls that brought you Euro Truck Simulator 1&2, Bus Driver, and Deer Drive, the next installment that will make the real and virtual drivers very happy is:

header.jpg

As of December 12th 2015 which they announced here: http://blog.scssoft.com/2015/12/american-truck-simulator-release-date.html, it is going to be available for truckers to drool over, and modify the rigs of their dreams.

So far (this will be updated as much as possible) Peterbilt, and Kenworth is a manufacturer confirmed in the game (via screenshots, and videos). It will start in the one place where customization is well very popular, California. It is already expected that there is DLC that will be expanding the game. SCS goal is:
to cover all of North America eventually and to chase every relevant truck manufacturer for a license to allow us to include their trucks into the game.

With Euro Truck Simulator 2, the game has grown to huge fanfare still pulling in fans from all over. With the staff from Twinfinite http://twinfinite.net/2014/12/crew-fails-euro-truck-simulator-2-succeeds/ rated this game better than The Crew from Ubisoft (Which popular thought is not hard to do) is something pretty neat from a fairly small company compared to EA for example.

There is one thing that really pushes ETS2: Mods. Mods have changed the game in so many ways it is basically insane what you can do. I'll try to break it down this way. The mods leave nothing behind to what cant be done. Mods have changed the season, traffic, trucks, trailers, buildings, citys, lighting and everything in between.

With the talk of everything that has happened with ETS2, it is expected the same will happen in ATS. Currently in the fantastic ETS2 thread https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/the-euro-truck-simulator-series-thread.283711/ on this very site, you can see what happens in the game, get help for any new issues with the updates, or sharing those chromed up V8 Scanias, and long frame 750HP Peterbilts.

ETS2 was a surprising joy for me so I will be getting this right away.

Any word on Deer or other roadkill possibilities?

That is up to the the people that make the mods. This is one aspect not covered.

Although I'm excited about the game, it won't be until at least a year after when we will see this game at its full potential.

Things that I. m excited on release is the map itself. For those who have put hundreds of hours into ETS2, you know that the vanilla map is very dull and repetitive. This is what personally I think will give life to ATS if SCS have stepped up their game and gone all out when it comes to variety. I am feeling very optimistic after experiencing Scandinavia.

Another aspect will be the trucks, but I'm sure the game will be a bit limited for now. That is something that probably worries me, but that's why we have the amazing modding community that will sure come to the rescue. their first priority I feel will be bringing iconic mods like the T800, 351, 359, Argosy, VNL and 389 to the game with all of their current options. Then it's up to the RTA team to put their premium mods into it as well. I got to have that Mack Superliner V8 in ATS.

As for the sounds go, I'm sure that Kriechbaum will be the first to improve what I think won't be very impressive sounds. Can't wait to see what he comes up with.

Further in the future, because I've fallen in love with this game series as well as many others, I would love to see my favorite European trucks put into the game, like the Volvo FH and Scania. Realistic or not, that is a must (and hey, we already drive illegal trucks in ETS2).

And last, I hope SCS does a better job with transmissions. It took me forever to figure out how to customize the gear patterns in ETS2. I want real patterns in 18 speed transmissions on day one. Ranged and split. If they can throw in 13 speeds too, than that will be very welcome.

Anyway, I can wait to pre-order it once they make it available. My body is ready...

Excellent news everyone, it appears that ATS will have bonuses. All about that steampunk :D I still need to plan that day off tho :/

American Truck Simulator Bonus

American Truck Simulator will be released simultaneously in retail and digital channels on February 3, 2016. But that's not "news" any more - hopefully you have the date marked in your calendar already! ;-)

To make as big a splash as possible during the release week - to place high in the best-selling chart and to make an impression on games industry press this way - we would like to create a sales spike just after the game starts selling. We will depend on our fan community to achieve this; when we were thinking on how to catalyze things, we came up with an idea of a little bribe bonus.

Here is the deal: Go to the American Truck Simulator Steam page, click the Community Hub button, and choose "Follow" to make sure you get all the important announcements through Steam's Friend Activity feed during the period leading to the game's release.

By getting as many people into our dragnet as possible, we hope for a bit of snowball effect in raising the awareness of the game's impending release - not just among the hard-core fans, but also in general gamer population.

In exchange for the "follow," we are ready to give you an exclusive gift: a set of unique Steampunk-themed truck paintjobs. It's perfectly OK if you buy the game in a retail box or any alternate digital channel - so long as you follow the game's official Steam community announcements and activate your game on Steam during the week after its release, you are eligible for this bonus.

Here is a couple images to whet your appetite:

Wish I had a pc that could run this, or any game that matter. I could see myself spending way too much time playing.

Some pretty awesome sunsets shown in the Gamescom trailer. Cannot wait to be driving into a sunset like that with a W900 :)

I have spent over a $1000 USD on my PC. I have a hardware upgrade ( one 1 TB HDD to 1 SSD and 4 more HHD). Yeah gaming is fun and expensive. I like income tax season.

It is indeed. I've blown close to that exact amount in my three year-old PC. And that only reaches the Recommended requirements for ETS2. My computer works great and has no hiccups or anything, but it's time to upgrade. Once I get some work that needs to be done on my car, I'll invest in a new CPU and GPU (and whatever comes with it, like PSU, new MoBo and what not). I still want to recycle as much as I can from my current PC and not to go through the hassle of switching to a new OS and transferring all my stuff.

PC gaming is an investment that is well worth it. You can still use your computer for work and other useful stuff unlike consoles.

Don't forget you can move the hard drive from one computer to another and it will run, just must meet the requirements. Hardware is plug and play so it will fix itself for you. :D

Oh and weird odd issue I have, the PSU fan has failed, but the cooling so damn efficient that I never overheated. Ever. Maybe I will upgrade to a modular unit.

SCS Blog Update (Partial posted in the community post on the GTP homepage:

American Truck Simulator Map DLC Clarifications

It's time to respond to the avalanche of questions coming our way concerning our plans for the initial edition of American Truck Simulator and its post-release future.

The day one release will contain the state of California. That was always the plan.

We are happy to confirm that on February 3rd, we will also have the state of Nevada fully ready for release. We were still not sure about Nevada's finish-line when the game box packaging design was being finalized, so the boxes sitting on retail shelves will put the spotlight on California, but there is actually more coming your way right out of the gate. In short, DLC Nevada will be a free game update for everyone, no matter where or when you will have bought the game, available immediately on official release date.

It is also public knowledge by now that we are hard at work on the state of Arizona. On the packaging of the retail box, there is actually an explicit statement that DLC Arizona will unlock for owners of this game edition when it's eventually finished. We are delighted to confirm that Arizona DLC will also be a free game update for everybody. You will just have to wait for it a little bit longer, this part of the world is still under development.

You do not really have to worry about the particular channel where to purchase the game, whether it's on Steam, in any other digital store, or in a bricks-and-mortar shop, the playable content will be the same for everybody.

Actually, we should also mention that next to this base release, several retail publishers have decided to also offer a richer (and more expensive) edition of the game on release, calling it Collector's Edition. These bigger cardboard boxes are surely nicer, they contain a cool selection of additional merchandise items, so it would be for example a very cool birthday gift with extra value. But when it comes to the game itself, the installation media is the same, and the same set of DLCs will be unlocked for those buying this special edition of the game as will for people with the regular edition of the game.

Recommended price of the game is going to be $20/€20, though it is to be expected that for alternate currencies, some local market specifics and the need to display a nice round figure may cause slight variations.

We surely do not plan to stop working on American Truck Simulator world with Arizona. However, please be aware that the road ahead of us is long, and it will take us years to cover the continent. We will continue to add features to the game with regular free updates, but most further map expansion DLCs, if not all, will be paid. We have had to pick a business model allowing us to build more than ten times the amount of content compared to what we are launching with. If you are looking forward to drive coast to coast, you will not be able to do that now, and it will cost you more eventually than the price of the initial purchase.

It would be great to get the chance to reach the East Coast, it would be fabulous to be able to push north towards at least 60 degs latitude and south towards the Equatorial. But ultimately, it is up to you, our fans, if this happen - you will vote with your wallets. We expect to get the right guidance from you on future growth of our team to handle the new opportunities and challenges.

Thank you for your patience and support! Posted by SCS Software at 1/15/2016 02:46:00 PM

To note to anyone who may have a questions about this, The mods from ETS2 will be able to be ported over to ATS. Currently unaware of what needs to be done, but I understand the files will be the .scs we are use too.

Updated main post with pricing. Not yet 100% confirmed but this is what is mentioned by SCS.

I requested a week of vacation starting February the 3rd. My roommate is going to California for a week starting that day, so I'll have my apartment for myself for a whole 7 days, enjoying ATS! Life is good :)

On a side note: I might've been chatting with "someone" and there are good news of the CAT sound kind :D

Also, it's been mentioned on the RTA faceboock page that the mods are technically very simple to import to ATS and that we might be seeing some of these trucks very soon after ATS release.

I got the day off from work. Steam is not doing pre-orders so I will buy ASAP, and planning on Twitching too for about 2 hours or so.

Good News: http://blog.scssoft.com/2016/01/truck-licensing-situation-update.html

Truck Licensing Situation Update

We still owe you clarification on the initial set of trucks shipping as part of the first release of American Truck Simulator. We have been postponing this post until the last minute, as the situation could - and still can - always change (and for the better only now), but we need to be clear at last on where we are.

Over the past year, we have been publishing quite a lot of screenshots and videos showing several in-development truck models. Our fans have quite sharp eyes and take note of all the details, so people are naturally speculating on what's coming based on those shots.

Until recently, we were planning to include at least four trucks at launch, and our screenshots shown over time reflected this optimism. Unfortunately, finalizing the licensing talks and getting all the vehicles past the approval clearance is taking longer than anticipated, and you may have noticed some of those trucks no longer showing in the most recent batches of pictures from the game.

The result is that out of the gate, the game will ship with just two trucks.

Thanks to kind support of PACCAR group, we are happy to confirm the presence of Kenworth T 680 and Peterbilt 579 as part of the launch line-up.

Peterbilt 579 licensed courtesy of PACCAR

After the game is released and gets into media spotlight, we will have a very important tool in our licensing talks arsenal - a successful game (fingers crossed) aimed at the relevant market. Licensing talks are often resembling the "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" problem. To obtain a license in a highly specialized field, you just don't walk into a store and get it over the counter. Unlike car manufacturers who have extensive experience with being featured in racing games, for most truck manufacturers this is all unexplored territory. We always need to find a way inside the company to reach the decision makers at marketing/licensing department, and getting our voice noticed is not easy. Just getting the chance to get out point across is often all it takes, and with American Truck Simulator out in playable form and in the hands of customers, it gives us a crucial talking point.

When the game is out on the market already at last, when we can prove its impact on trucking fans at large, we hope for more of the truck manufacturers to pay attention, to realize that it's beneficial for them to participate, and perhaps even push us to hurry so that they are not left behind the pack. We have been through this experience with the launch of Euro Truck Simulator 2, when vocal support of our fans managed to bring the game to the attention to European truck manufacturers missing in the initial version of the game.

We have progressed very well on several additional vehicles, and in the weeks after release, we are confident that will get the clearance to start adding them to the game. We will be adding them for free of course as part of regular game updates, just as is the case with the ETS2.

Now comes the time for an explicit disclaimer - any vehicles and truck brands you will see pictured below this point in text are here only for illustrative purposes, and do not constitute any guarantee that they will be appearing in the game in any particular timeframe. We have implemented them as an experiment when trying to get the door opened. As you can see some of them are already in advanced enough stage to be technically prepared for integration into the game world, yet more are semi-finished and not yet ready for integration with the game engine.

Meanwhile, we are still hard at work improving Euro Truck Simulator 2. As we are showing a ton of North American vehicles today, we did not want our European fans to feel betrayed. So we thought that a teaser image of a new truck being readied for introduction to ETS2 will cheer them up today.

Sounds like they brought back the CB radio again.

If they don't, there is a guy that makes, and shares them. Quite NSFK Not safe For Kids. Currently noone knows how mods are. Might be drop in, or needs slight edits to work. My PC is down but once it is up, I am gaming hard and gonna try twitch again.

Someone who I have followed and watched, Squirrel is doing his weekend stream, and tomorrow he will be interviewing the CEO of SCS Software.

I'm deliberately ignoring the Squirrel hype. I prefer to discover the game and its features myself , rather than spend hours watching someone else play it.

He drives way too fast, revs too high, and pays too much attention to the people yacking and throwing money at him. I mean good on him for putting himself in that situation, more power to him, but it severely dropped the quality of his content.

Waited this long, can wait 3 more days.

Absolutely agree. He drives horrible! This is how you do it. I did post this in the ETS2 thread as well. Enjoy the sounds :)

Hopefully it won't be too long before they transfer these to ATS.
