Hi all long time no see, got a quick question (Wheres Mr Latte when you need him!).

Im having a redesign of my GTX rig, bought a second hand surround system, a Sony HTSS1100. Been looking for ages, I have a KS1000 already for Sky and its been great so got its bigger brother for my PS3.

So my question is........ PS3>Optical>HTSS1100, simples for sound... Now my Mrs is getting me a Buttkicker Gamer 2 for Xmas and wanted to know how to connect.

If I use multi audio out to enable RCA cables for the Buttkicker will I lose 5.1 from PS3 down to 2.1 from optical?

To me that would be the way to go, have no outputs from receiver to connect it to, have heard I could connect to sub out using the 2 wires. Surely the optical will still give 5.1???

Will post some pics of the redesign when its somewhere near complete.

Presumably your TV is connected by HDMI to the PS3. If so the 5.1 audio goes via HDMI and the PS3 optical output defaults to a stereo output.

In theory I beleive your connection should be PS3 to to TV via HDMI, TV to surround amp / receiver via optical.

You can use the multiout function and RCA to your BKG2, but it will be a full bandwidth signal and so you may need to use a graphic equaliser or FMod to prevent unwanted high frequencies.

NB - I said in theory above because I have been using the multiout with RCA's to a subwoofer amp powering an Aura Bass Shaker and I have been experiencing a lot of difficulty with getting 5.1 audio out of my PS3.

@Kris - Just noticed that you suggested using your sub out - that is best if you are only using one channel for tactile - as it is already low frequency you shouldn't need to use an EQ or FMod. Unfortunately my 5.1 system doesn't have a sub out as the surround amp is built into the sub hence I have been using the PS3 multiout, but plan to use the amp stereo out so that I also get tactile effects on Wii games.

Ok, I have got HDMI to a Viewsonic monitor and red/white rca to current amp, it has no optical in. When my new amp arrives it will have an optical port for audio in and HDMI but that wont carry audio through the amp. So when it arrives and i connect optical to it, will that not carry 5.1? The amp has standard pos/neg spring loaded outputs for all the surround speakers, including the sub as it is a passive unit. Sorry if I didnt explain everything first time round.

Here is a link to the system im getting;

God damn you Latte where are you when your needed?!

all you need is a splitter on the lfe channel. this will split the source to the woofer and the bk gamer2. in ps3 you select the optical as your only audio out.

if the splitter doesn't come with the bkg2 then source ond on ebay theyre only a few bucks. its a single male rca to two female. your other option is to use the line out from your woofer if it has one.

hope this helps... sorry about grammer writing from my phone... big fingers small keypad

ignore that just downloaded your manual and it cant be done the way i said. will take a look tomorrow from my computer

Cheers mate thanks for looking,if i got a bare wire to rca connector or made one could i piggy back from the sub out, like i said its a passive sub so no rca pre out unfortunatley.

This is the cable you need: Speaker Level Interface Adaptor (for use with passive subwoofer systems).

It comes standard in the Buttkicker BKA300-4 Amplifier but not sure on the Gamer2.

Hope this helps mate...

Cheers for that mate, much appreciated. So can confirm that 5.1 through optical and then supply buttkicker via subwoofer port. Will doubling up on the sub port have any detrimental effect on sub/amp?

Yes optical port to receiver with 5.1ch sound. Do not turn on the multi-output option.

This cable is what Buttkicker are recommending and supplying with some of their models then it shouldnt be an issue - although I can not be 100% on the effects on the amplifer.
